TranslateIT - a small Utility for translating your Apps

Here is another small Utility for you

It comes with a minimal GUI (already translated into 4 Languages using TranslateIT). Simply select a language at startup. If none is selected, German will be used

Simply load a file into the left Editor (or type some Text manually) choose the language to translate from and the target language, press the translate button and wait (if translation is finished, you'll get a Messagerequester)

Now you can save the translated text.

The button in the Middle (=>) has 2 Functions: 1st, if you have a text on the left and a translation on the right, it syncs the right side with the position on the left.
2nd, you can load a text into the right side if this side is empty

if you scroll the translated text (right side) the left side is automatically sync'ed

This is helpful when checking the translation (as google sometimes gives mysterious answers)

A hint: the time to translate a word or sentence is around 2 seconds because of a delay i added (this is absolutely necessary as if there are too many hits from one IP... this IP is banned for a time) I'll tied a lot and this is the shortest time google accepts

known issue: sometimes the returned site from google has a different structure... so sometimes the first oir the first 2 letters are missing OR sometimes the position is totally mixed up ... with other words: you have to read the translated text to eliminate obvious errors...

Excellent!! Just what i was looking for, exaclty what i was looking for!!

Suggestions:

1.- Remember the language that user choose for the GUI
2.- Dont show a messagerequester when finished
3.- Use wordwrap, otherwise sometimes need to be moving the scroll to be able to read the sentences.
4.- Add systray feature please

Glad that someone could use it

changed all things you'd mentioned except the wordwrap... after first choice of the GUI-language, there is a translate.ini created in the same folder as the executable... (if you want to change the language later, just delete this ini-file)

If you minimize the app, the window will disappear from the taskbar... you can get it back by clicking (single click) at the systray-icon (the new package contains now the Icon-file which must be in the same folder as the executable

The Messagerequester is removed

Only the word wrap will cause a little more work as if I turn it on, I have to check if both sides are wrapped (to sync the text) ... so you have to wait for that a little

It's a great tool, thank you!

But I have some ideas too:
- other languages (shouldn't be too hard?!)
- pause, abort option
- auto-scroll while process
- not too important: a simple translation error check: translated string is the
same as previous one, different word count, ...

Please add these things too because your tool is really handy for me (or at
least publish the code )

..add other languages.. is no problem (see description in the first post). You only have to edit the file language.lst (it's a plain textfile)

- abort the translation and autoscroll will be implemented... that should be no problem
- to add some checking to the translation is on my TODO list ... (but it isn't that easy because sometimes the word count differs ... depending on the text to translate and the used languages... maybe I 'll trow out a warning then.... and the text will be colored yellow or red...)

EDIT: what do you mean with autoscroll? it's already implemented .... while translating the left editor is automatically scrolled down ...

if you read the translated text and scroll down manually on the right side, the left side follows... if you scroll down the left side (orig text) the right side is only updated if you press the little button (=>) in the middle of the 2 editor gadgets
(this button is used for loading a file too if no text is in the right side)

Ahh good...I didn't read your text too exactly and thought that just the gui
translation is possible to change.
And how embarrassing even the auto-scroll while translating is already
included (I think the translation just looked too strange)..

I think another good and easy check could be to look if the translated word
is the equal..

so... next version is ready
- added ESC key to abort the translation (may you have to wait a little after keypress until action is taken)
- added Pause key to suspend translation (press Pause again to continue) same here... maybe you'll have to wait a little
- added some more languages (Italian, Danish,Dutch,Finnish,Norwegian,Swedish) to the languages.list
- added GUI translations for Italian and Finnish users (translated via TranslateIT)
- a minor BUG fixed ...

Well, its not so much funny (neither is it my native language), but selecting Italian as the display language brings up the gui in German! (selecting English works however)
The ini file correctly states Italian as the selected language...

I apologize for this inconvenience ...

it was a typo in the Italian language file ... the first line must be always the word Catalog regardless which language.... I'd left this as a Placeholder for a later Version-checking .... :roll:

You can either Change the Word In the italian_language.catalog file or re-download the package ....

No need to be embarrassed!
As I understand it, this is a program that uses online translation services, something I never use to translate a program (well perhaps only a word or two) because I know how crap the translations can be
I'm just looking at it since you said the Italian catalog was translated using your app, and I can fix it up.
