Wow! Valve made some bucks with Portal, their game that was based on the same thing... Nice to know that it's possible not only with the Source Engine :).

2 Billboards...
2 cameras rendering to the billboard texture...

If entity collides it gets located at the other billboard...

Depending on the player FOV the cameras get rotated so it gives the impression there is something on the other side...

That's a really good job.


I thought that the game portal had something special.

It did have something special: It was a very polished game.

The actual "how" to do it is not hard.

Designing the levels to keep you enticed, now that is hard. Valve did cheat a bit - GlaDOS helped break the monotany. :)

In fact, I'd say that without GlaDOS, it would have enticed people for about 5 minutes before they uninstalled it.
