Macbook Pro: 15" or 17"?

I want a mac. One of them is larger. Do you think it's worth it? I can always use more screen space, but frankly I don't need a physically bigger computer.

Well If I had enough money to buy the 17", I'd definitively do it, and use it as a replacement for my desktop, putting Linux & Windows on it.
The whole thing in a laptop

17" is better to my mind, even though it's heavy when travelling

A laptop should be small for me and easy to transport, because he never replace my desktop PC, but only for Pleasure is helpful.

I have a MacBook Pro with 15,4'' monitor and can say I'm totally satisfied. It runs at a native resolution of 1440 x 900 and I never have space problems. Safari, iTunes or Photoshop; they all don't run in maximized windows because there's plenty of room. I personally don't want a Laptop that is any larger in size because the dimensions are perfect. So I would agree with you and think that a physically larger screen won't be necessarily an advantage.

The key question is: how much do you travel with it? I got a larger Dell and a smaller HP, and for lots of travelling I go for the smaller the better.

Not a lot of travelling. It's a desktop replacement. I don't have a desktop computer and I'm not planning to buy one.

For a desktop replacement you should defin. take the larger one. In my eyes it nicer to work with. I love big screens

When ur 1/2 blind like myself, the bigger the screen, the less my eyes get strained. ( Can even get away without need to change from my general specs to my close specs with the 19" on my desktop.. )

What the heck is the point in using a laptop as desktop replacement? If it's a replacement you can buy a desktop pc in the first place! If you want a desktop replacement and mobility then go with 15,4" screen.

It's used as a desktop replacement, which means I'm sitting at my desktop and not in the sofa, on the beach or on a train when I'm using it. But, I can't use a normal desktop computer, because I want to be able to move it between several desktops in multiple houses, take it to school, etc... But most of the time it just sits still, so if it's a bit heavier it doesn't really matter.

The 17" is just 200 grams heavier than my current 15.4".

Allthough getting parts out of apple for units no longer being sold is a nightmare!

Buy a G5 you would be doing bettter!
