What has happened to this community?

Post by Kale »

I check this forum at least 5 times everyday and i have done for about 5 years. Over them years i have see this community grow into one of the greatest i've ever been a part of. However, recently things, IMHO, are going downhill. Every other thread seems to be a flamewar and there is alot of nonsense posted about trivial things that people disagree strongly about. I'm seriously thinking about kissing off PB forever.

I'm fed up with newly registered members kicking off at the slightest opportunity, i'm fed up with the swearing that seems to be common place now. Although i must admit i've had my share of cursing. I'm fed up with troll posts, only made to provoke a reaction. I'm fed up with people always questioning other people's ability and intelligence.

I mean come on moderators do some work! This forum is for programming. I just get depressed when i read this board now, and that really upsets me. I wish it was like the old days.

Agreed on everything. I nearly quit the forum the other day, which would probably please some people. But I changed my mind. After all, i have met quite a bunch of people i regularely chat with over messenger, and these are some of the most intelligent people i have chatted with ever :) And intelligence might be anything from being funny to being smart

I mean, the real world is not to give up. But sometimes its better to just leave it and be yourself. Not needing to keep up an image. Not caring of each others situations - just having fun, like it should be! Of course the real world can be fun, too.

Now what made me in better mood was this: http://tv-links.co.uk/listings/1/1379

"The IT crowd" :) Its quite funny from time to time i tell you

Stop whining!

I love this offtopic SHIT (oh nooos!), could do this all day. If you wanna leave don't make a big anouncement, "Just do it.".

Nevertheless, I agree 100% with you! Image

But you forgetting something, it's summer holidays for most of us.

Jesus Christ! I tried that link and just watched Episode 1.

Well, I have never heard about it but it's by far the funniest stuff I have seen for along time!

Well, I haven't been coming here for 5 years yet but in the short time that I have things have changed a bit. There are a lot more off topic threads (but that is the one that I post most in so I can't complain) and perhaps I don't contribute anywhere near as much as I should in the other forums but I still think it is a good community in general, maybe a few less religious and/or political threads and a bit less swearing wouldn't hurt.

Kale, I agree with you 100%

It is a shame though. This *IS* one of the coolest forums I have ever had the pleasure of being a member of.

I to would love to put my finger on the exact reason for it entering into a phase of pointless flame wars.

I can't pretend to be innocent bystander in some of these wars though... I did annoy PB a while back and a few other board members, I do have an attitude problem and an ego, but I DO try to make an effort to behave here, as I enjoy visiting and as I am trying to teach my son how to program... this is a good place to get him started :P. The obscene language and links to David hasselhoff do make me wonder if the forum is as child friendly sometimes (Just for the record, I am joking about David hasselhoff), but the pro's outweigh the con's... There are some very talented programmers who have taught my son a lot about the theory of programming, especially in stuff I am weak in, like 3D.

I guess, we should all make an effort to chill out, and relax a little more. And try to remember that younger people also visit here, not just testosterone fuelled teenagers and grumpy old men ;P

> I did annoy PB a while back

It's all okay. I've upset some people too. But most of us tend to apologise
and get over it, which is great. I agree with Kale that the swearing is a real
issue these days. It never happened in the past. There should be a filter for
that sort of thing, as it's juvenile and unprofessional. That's my two cents.
I compile using 5.31 (x86) on Win 7 Ultimate (64-bit).

For me it's the immaturity of some as well as the lack of respect of others that has slowed down my contributions to the PB community. Back in the good-old-days one could simply post code and move on to the next challenge. 8)

Don't hesitate to mail us (mods + admins) in PM when something seems going nowhere. I'm not always on the forums like i was before, but i try to do my best to spend still be here as often as possible. Speaking of good old days is cool, but it's now history, so let's build a better future .

Howdy srod and rsts :)

I check the board daily so I never actually left, I just put the brakes on my posting. So to build a better future, if there is ever a need for code from me, you can rest assure I'll do what I can. 8)

I threw it to Joakim yesterday at around 23:00 in the evening, and he watched all 6 episodes in a row :) The boss is hillarous!
