Your problems with Windows Vista

hi there...
i installed windows vista ultimate on my pc... yesterday (friday) i spend some time to work with it and check out its new features and how does vista work and where you can change the settings i.e.

i tried to work with vista for some hours and here is my first personaly result about vista... the new look of the GUI may be nice but sometimes there are some applications where i dont like the transparency aera glass look. Some applications seem to waste space of the visible window by using a very high "something" bar, like in "Windows DVD Maker". Mhhhh...

Some small info before i will continue... i installed Vista Ultimate, installed latest versions of PureBasic, WinAmp, TotalCommander...

Now i will take over to the part having problems with Vista.



Internet Explorer:
Never before i had a webbroswer so often crashing and restarting like the new IE... the first time it worked ok... but with the time it crashed more and more... here are two screenshots... when the second screenshot appears, i have mostly to restart windows to get it work again O.O

WinAmp:
I complete installed the latest WinAmp version... i tried to listen to some of my favourite livestreams... the same WinAmp version worked fine for me on windows xp pro... Now on vista i get everytime an error that a dll may fail, hä?

Remember, not all programs are yet Vista compatible.

And yes, I can easily see it would use a ton of resources.
How does it run, smooth? Does it lag at all, or is it quite fast?

I've been using it for about a week now. As you mentioned, some programs (and hardware) are not 'Vista ready' but I haven't experienced any problems with IE or even with Firefox 1.5 (my favorite version).

If you're running aero, DWM can take some resources, depending on the power of your video card. I haven't noticed any noticable differences in speed from XP, but I haven't timed any programs either. I haven't seen any compelling reasons to move to Vista from XP either.

I'm sticking with it for now, Purebasic seems to run fine so far. I've even been able to install a 'legacy' version of VB6 and it also seems to work fine, however I have also found a few programs that didn't play too well in the Vista sandbox, but so far, I've been able to do without them.

Someday all programs will be updated to work on Vista, and everyone will be using Vista....
Then Microsoft will come out with another ...great.. OS!

I'll keep Vista in lab and on VMWare until all my devices are installed correctly!

There are some well know bugs in Vista. But to be frank, throw away Vista Ultimate and install Vista Home premium instead. Less bugs, and has all the features you need. Do you really need BitLocker, HD Movie Maker or the Premium Games? ;)

Nero v6.6.1.4:
Thats the last version i really liked to work with... I tried a trial of version 7.x and i really disliked the new changes. Nero v6.6.1.4 does not works anymore on Vista... what a shame...

Updating RAM:
Due fact of some test reasons i installed vista on my pc with only 512 MB Ram... it worked but somtimes a bit slow but ok... I updated my PC again to 1024 MB and after the first start of vista, when you get this vista boot manager... an error appears about the new installed 512 MB memory O.O ... Bios accepted it correctly... I was wondering, that Vista Bootmanger noticed the changes from 512 to 1024 MB RAM... Vista dont liked to start normaly... Vista tried to analyse and repair the system O.O ... After this work and restarting, Vista works again...



Btw, IE crashes often here... so i installed again my beloved Firefox and this works very fine and stable :)

It's codemaned Vienna, to be released in 2009...

This is old news, saw a more recent one with the ETA for it...

va!n, where in germany did you buy the english version of vista?
Good programmers don't comment their code. It was hard to write, should be hard to read.

i am testing some software prods from and for my old company. so the boss of the developer team has some outsourced work for me while testing the new prods. for this i got a DVD from the company (english version) to install and test it... i think its an english version, because some coders are still working in russia for us and they can only speak english instead german ^^
