I'm looking for 2 translators to update the Italian and Spanish editor catalog file (almost 100 words to translate). If you can help, just mail me at mailto:fred@purebasic.com

(and reply to the forum to tell the translation is ok)

Thanks in advance !

If it's just words you want translated, rather than phrases, then
Google's tranlator should be good enough if nobody can help:

Thanks but I prefer 'real' translating, especially with computer words :).
Spanish is ok. Only Italian left. BTW, the editor currently has the following langage support:

- English
- French
- German
- Dutch
- Spanish
- Italian.

If someone want to add its own langage file, just contact me.

Fred
as i will not have much time next days i have soon translated the Italian editor catalog file, here it is (see below). For a more confortable usage, i'll send to you by email attachment also the .catalog file.
Just a few general 'translation' notes, to explain some 'guidelines' I have tried to follow:

- i have used the base english catalog as a reference, when i had any doubts i have checked out the French one (don't know French but am able to read it in general); for example I have translated 'Match case' with 'Maiuscole Minuscole' according to the French file.

- 'Stay on Top': i have translated it with 'Sempre visibile' but in the case related to the Color picker I had to shorten it with 'Sempre Visib.' as the complete string doens't fit in the dialog.

- While I have translated 'Procedure Browser' with 'Browser delle Procedure' as in a technical context it sounds a little better than the literal translation ('Navigatore delle Procedure'), I have translated 'Structure viewer' with 'Ispettore delle Strutture', something like 'Structure Inspector box', as otherwise, leaving the (indeed better) original english word, the 'tools menu' would have all Italian words except of that.

- the 'Menu Item Name:' under 'add tools' dialog box: i had to shorten it as 'Nome Elem. Menu:' as the complete string 'Nome Elemento di Menu:' doesnt' fit

Finally I can add that I have installed it inside PB 3.40 catalogs folder (Italian subfolder) and played with the translated catalog file selecting almost all the IDE commands: it seems to me everything is OK.

Hope this helps

Giuseppe (Joseph)

Bel lavoro Giuseppe.

BTW:
> Parent
Penso che 'Parent' non e un nome italiano...

Dovrebbe essere 'Parente'. No :)

I am very glad to contribute a little little bit to this excellent project, named PureBasic!

Yes, I didn't translate 'parent' but it actually wasn't an oversight :)
Sounding a little 'ugly' to me puttin there the Italian word 'Genitore', I checked out the French catalog file and found Fred left it so, so it seemed to me better using that way also in the ITalian file.

Infact, the word 'parent' would be literally translated into the Italian word 'Genitore', consider that is one of the so called 'false friends': in Italian we say 'parente' (singular) ('parenti', plural) for, say, your english word 'relative' meaning people belonging to the same familiy (i.e: uncles, aunts etc.) Of course 'genitori' are also 'parenti' in general but it's a slight difference :)

Anyway I think that's one of the typical cases in which it's actually hard to decide if leaving the original word or going on using the original english one (almost always better as more concise and 'evocative'). In general i can add that nowadays people in a technical context directly use many english original words, as the Italian 'equivalents' sound sometimes not so fine (ie, personally dont' like 'archivi' for 'files').

Just my 2 euro cent opinion :)

ciao da Giuseppe

Sometimes beter to leave in english.
Here in Dutch, 'icon' was translated in first w95 to 'pictogram' bwaak.
And 'Eject' to 'Verbreken' wich actualy means 'Break apart' or 'Disconnect' if you translate to english :)

But now many words just stay English, and are oficialy recocnized as dutch also.

Computer
Compiler
Delete
Surf
etc... all dutch now
