Who was the inventor?
Federico Faggin? ( http://www.invent.org/Hall_Of_Fame/55.html )
or
Edward "Ted" Hoff, Jr. ? ( http://www.ideafinder.com/history/inventors/hoff.htm )

Good question.

The answer is: Everybody, it seems. :)

But here is a story that puts Faggin and Hoff into a timeframe:

Depends on your nationality.

I am sure someone from Belgium would claim a Belgian invented it, someone from Canada will claim a Canadian did, and so forth.

Same goes for the automobile, the airplane, etc.

//waits for Dare2 to chime in about the Holden

Not to mention the M3900 - First 8086 PC in the world, own OS, multitasking, multi-terminal, own (and hugely powerful) integrated basic language, own WP, own SS, own accounting packages, etc.

Many thousand of units sold then the company went >bang<.
