Game Maker forum hacked!

From the forum:

The GMC will be offline until futher notice.

Yesterday the forum was hacked with what we believe to be a forum exploit.

A member signed up and gained admin rights and changed the forum template to add an iframe at the bottom of each page.

This iframe took advantage of expliots in Internet Explorer and downloaded trojans and virus to anyone who viewed them.

A bulk email was also sent out which reached around 3000 people containing an exe that was also infected with a virus.

I promptly took the forum offline and patched the expliot and removed the iframe.

This is what i thought to be the end of the problem but today this has proven to be false. Around 2pm GMT, Mark Overmars forum account was hacked.

I urge you all, if you use the same password at this forum as other places, then change it in that other place as soon as possible.

I hope you understand the nature of this situation and understand if we have to start from new (it was planned any way remember )

I got the same mail and so... seems that GM users will have hard time (I was a GM user, not anymore)

I don't get it, why do people hack others forums.. And why do they want others to be infected?

I can't answer to those questions, as I will never understand hackers..

They ain't hackers, because that's clearly against hacker ethics and much to easy to do, these are lame cracker script kiddie bastards. Watch hackers the movie, then you will learn to like the real hackers don't know if they still exist though :roll:

Sorry, nik: crackers doesnt do this.
Crackers dont want to ruin such things.
Hackers wont do such thing either..

its just some plain script kiddies

Yep, if they were the real deal, they'll find the exploit and let the owner know about it, further more they'll offer themselves to work over there

Lets not forget about letting the developers of the forum know as well (or any other service).

Oops sounds familiar.

By the way, that movie... aweful. Hmm almost every movie about hackers got really a bad idea of what a hacker is and what he/she does...

I once saw a computer in a movie with a big red button named "release virus"...

Most movies showing something on a computer is just stupid... beeping sounds and all that crap...

I was also a GameMaker user, but I haven't visited the forum for a long time!

Matrix -> reloaded !!!!

Nmap was featured in The Matrix Reloaded! We have all seen many movies like Hackers which pass off ridiculous 3D animated eye-candy scenes as hacking. So I was shocked to find that Trinity does it properly in The Matrix Reloaded. She whips out Nmap version 2.54BETA25, uses it to find a vulnerable SSH server, and then proceeds to exploit it using the SSH1 CRC32 exploit from 2001. Shame on them for being vulnerable (timing notes).

you dont think i know? Why the hell should i write Matrix Reloaded if i thought there was only 1 :/

however: In MATRIX RELOADED (as i wrote) TRINITY (a female character running around) is using a "real" approach.

and by saying that its more than 3 movies, I mean that its more than a movie to many people... and in fact, theres more than movies, also games, etc. just that.

Yeah the hacking scenes in hackers wer plain stupid but the idea of why they hack and so on was ok, there was also a scene were they talked about computer books and there they mentioned a few real things. Didn't know that about trinity it's cool though.

I think it's just that hollywoud can't do it the good way since it would be only funny for us geeks^^

Btw, what do you think about "War Games" I think some stuff in it was ok, the speaking computers though aren't so realisitc for that time. However I loved the nice "Acoustic Modem"
