Can't believe this!

Post by Inf0Byt3 »

Hmm, i own a piece of junk, an AMD and guess what: Dunno how, but the connector from the CPU cooler has broken and my computer worked for 1 hour without a cooler. Strange thing is that I felt the smell and opened the case. I touched the heat sink and I burned my skin :). How long do CPUs resist without a cooler, is this a wonder mine resisted or what?

Is it even possible? Maybe I just pulled the cable out when I opened the case... I simply cannot believe it myself .

If you dont play games or so its possible to have it running quite some time :)

i mean, my athlon 64bit 3800+ runs at about 33 degrees C with the boxed cooler, wich does say quite a bit.. Since it can still operate at 50-60 even 70 degrees (my old xp 2000+ ran at about 60 degrees!!), its possible if you dont play games. Or dont use something that uses a lot of the cpu power, then the temperature goes up quickly.

Its possible. Depends on your environment but CPUs arent like humans, they dont get really uncomfy at 110 degrees. You can pretty much run one up to 140 degrees (F) in alot of cases. Then again... if you were gaming that whole hour then WOW

Wow... No, I wasn't playing, I was downloading MandrivaLinux.
Just to say, am an electronics hobbyst, and I have a friend that overclocked a 400Mhz AMD to 1800Mhz and it was running at about 80 degrees Celsius, but it didn't last too long, unfortunately :D. He used a fridge motor to "chill" it down  . I might even try this myself, hehe, 1000 isn't enough :(.

I just installed my first water-cooling system ever in a customer's machine. It's expensive, but wow, it's quiet and VERY efficient. Kinda looks like a rocketship standing beside the cpu.

hehe :)

Just today i wondered if i should buy some sort of watercooling set (both for chassis and CPU), to get a good quiret cooling. My AMD64 3800+ puts up a choking 31 degrees C(87.8 degrees Fahrenheit. actually its only) for idle state, and i havent seen it over 42 (107.6 degrees F) with a BOXED COOLER!

the boxed cooler is, thankfully, automatic regulating (the motherboard controls this) with 3000 RPM in IDLE state, and up to 5500 RPM when heavy loaded.

the chassis has 2 coolers wich i put in, one in top and one in bottom, and the chassis temperature is about 22C(71,6), wich is 1+my room temperature.

my graphic card also have a cooler on it, and of course the PSU got one too wich sucks out.

in this idle state, my GPU is at 31 degrees C (87,8 ).

So watercooling is not because my system is too hot, its because its not quiret.
