Firefox bugs

Post by Shannara »

Gotta love firefox bugs :) This is tried and true on Firefox 1.5 and 1.5.0.1 (newest update). It refuses to log into any message forums. I initially thought it was Phpbb, but it does the same for SMF, Web Wiz and the like.

Anybody else having the same issue? This is with Windows XP, SP2 w/ all updates and optional updates. There are no spyware nor adware no viruses on this computer as I recently built it last night with a fresh retail install of XP :) Even ran a few virus scanners and anti-spybot/adware software against it. Everything turns out clean.

Funny thing is Opera and IE works flawlessly with cookies/sessions. It's narrowed down to Firefox.

I recommend you to bring over your system to our offices, we'll fix your problems. First the email client now this :? Seems like you're carrying your life in spyware and junk in that system!

Never had login issues with the latest firefox (nor older) builds...

Although, it's OSS, feel free to fix the bugs yourself and publish the changes :D

I only use Firefox at home and can log into PHPbb forums like these with
no problems whatsoever. I also run Win XP with SP2 and it's a clean install
from about a week or so ago.
I compile using 5.31 (x86) on Win 7 Ultimate (64-bit).

I'm using Firefox 1.5.0.1 and have no problems logging in to any forum I've tried so far. Maybe try firefox secrity settings regarding the cookie issues because I've had problems like that before with FireFox but on IE as well.

I'd suggest you kill your cookies and cache first in case there are residual settings that persist. First clear all cookies, cache, exit firefox, restart, check settings and try again.

I realise that by clearing the cookies that you will have to re-establish logins to all forums that you go to but it's a good way to start.

You might even backup your old cookies and re-introduce them one by one when the issue is fixed.

Also, ignore the smart-ass forum troll who keeps replying with nothing useful to say. I ignore him all the time

Mine is a dirty install of 8 months or so with only SP2 and no other updates (Mickeysloth updates can take you down!!) and logins still work. So as I suggested to Shannara, it could be a firefox security setting issue.

The other thing I forgot to add is that all modern firewalls and AntiVirus software have settings for cookies and they can complicate the issue. He might want to check if his particular safeguards are tripping each other up.

From memory, the last time I had login problems, I disabled all cookie handling of any sort on my firewall and antivirus and setup only firefox to manage them and then everything worked.

Too much software, too much protection. Everything is overcomplicated now.

Did you ever figure out what was causing this problem?

I just resurected firefox (1.0.7 - my personal fav) and am having the same problem - I can't log on to the PB forum.

Had problem with netscape also but was able to find a security setting which permitted it. Unable to find any such setting in firefox. just wondering if you did.

I am running tabswitch extension, but can't find anything in options which appears to make any difference.

cheers
