how would you classify this pc

Post by thefool »

Athlon 64(socket 939) 3800+, 1gb kingston ddr400 ram, 2*200 8mb cache Western Digital hdd's, Creative Audigy 2 ZS, Radeon 9600XT 256mbyte ram..

currently i have a athlon xp 2000+ with 768 mbyte ram.
However i get the new motherboard (asus. supports dual core too) and the new ram (2*512 mbyte) and the new cpu for putting my old 2000+ and 768mbyte ram in my lil-bro's computer :) And installing windows on it.
Good trade i think :)

You only need a special edition of windows if you want the advantage of a 64 bit processor.

Edit:
I actually downloaded the free trial version of WindowsXP Pro x64 Edition.
I didn't notice any speed difference, and I didn't like it much, so I went back to the 32 bit version.

Okay.
I also asked @IRC both in pure channel and in hardware help channels, and both places they adviced not to get it.

for AMD 64 yes you need xp 64.... INTEL does have a REAL 64 bits processor .. its on my brother's motherboard at the moment .... you dont require any special OS build for using its 64 bits (intel claims...............................). I'm an AMD guy though... My brother diserves to die for being such a gay (moving to INTEL since he didnt like the amd 64 he bought a month ago).

By the way why do I always see some lame questions coming from that fool?

If GetSystemMetrics_(#SM_SLOWMACHINE)
  Debug "Slower"
Else
  Debug "Higher"
EndIf

Funny but not very useable I think. If I'm not wrong it return slow if the processor doesn't meet the Windows 95 system requirements.

heh :P

dagcrack i didnt critisize intel, however it has been proven that their 64bit processor doesnt compare to amd's athlon 64.
Btw my processor is running great! I have tried all new games i could find, hl2, painkiller, doom3 etc all with full gfx and they run great!
and the processor keeps under 39 degrees C after playing 3d games for 5 hours in a very hot room.. with the standard cooler

Yeah I know. I do have an old laptop here. The harddrive crashed on it, a 4 GB drive so I had to replace it with a 520 MB drive :| It was upgraded to 95 MB ram in it's day and has a 266 MHz CPU. And I've got NT 4 installed on it, but can't install any browser newer then IE3 :( So I can't really use it for anything else then testing some simple programs.
