Need tip on free CAD like software

Post by GeoTrail »

I am planning some work in the house, one of those is building a bed for my son. I have most of the plans drawed out in my head and I could always put it down on paper, but I'd rather draw it on my machine for later printing and revising. So I'm wondering if anyone knows about a good and free and also easy to use program that would fit my needs. I do know how to use AutoCad as I used it in school when I took technical drafts, but I just need a small and simple program so I can draw up my plans, dra in the planks and boards, screws and such so I can add the measurements too and print it out.
Any suggestions would be great. I've tried Eve but I didn't like it.

You may want to sign up for the mysterious x-cad give away.

I signed up at the end of June and since then I've received one intelligent follow up touting personal cad solutions, so I think it is geniune.

Btw, that is a very old marketing scheme. Trust me, it's no good ;)

Looks nice, but the Drawing size is limited to 150KB. That's what I got when I registered to get the download link.

Well, it's a simple consept.
Let's say I get a mail from a company saying that they will pay me XXX number of dollars if I can provide them with XXX number of CONFIRMED email addresses with some personal details attached. Anyone can get hands of email addresses, confirmed addresses which are actually used by people are a very valuable asset for marketing companies. So they buy a company or a software which they can use to do marketing. Anyone who registers gets the program free. There are two versions of that, first one, there is no software as stated, the second, there is a software stated, but how good is it? Just look at this "Own one of the most powerful parametric solid modelers on the market" that sentence doesn't go together with the word "free". Just image how much money it takes to develope a package like AutoCAD, or even a program you make yourself, you spend months and even years on it, you don't want to give that away for free, especially if you have spent alot of money hiring in more coders, graphics, engineers, planners and marketing, AutoCAD has bein marketed for probably hundred of millions of dollars just in europe the past 10 years.

Has anyone REALLY read the license or the EUL for X-Cad?

That was my first concern (sale of a qualified email list) however a few legit coys know who it is and are playing along, so I'm hoping it's ok ....
