So ATM we can still continue coding without paying royalties for code we have made ourselves.

Hi!
Yes, I breathe a sigh of relief !
I look much more confidently to the future of my study now and have the hope not to enter a patent-mine and brain-pruned area when finished.
The letters to Bruxelles and other efforts have been worthwhile, and I want to thank all persons who have made more endeavors !

This is really a successfulness!
And even if the decisive cause was less the subject itself, but more the parliament's resentment to the comission of EU, which wanted to cut the parliament short, it is still a definite victory for the democracy (about which I have often doubts, especially caused by this subject).
Perhaps this decision should have been made before the election about the EU-constitution in France...

But for sure we now just have a stalemate situation:
We have no 'bad' directive now, but no 'good' one either - just none.
But at some day there will be a uniform law passed, and we should take care, what will be written into it. Perhaps another comission is so perky again to just rewrite the same content again, instead of rewriting the content.
The parliament must not bring own draft laws for acclamation - this has to be made by a comission. So we still have to take care.

Of course it is important to keep this risks in mind, but it does not appreciate the power that some people gave for bringing this decision to such a good state. This plain result ist an achievement and in some way a victory for democracy feelings. Using this pep we should sound the current patent-practice out!
And then wait for the next comission's proposal.

With confident cheers,
