(Free) tool to create a ram disk under Windoze

Post by merendo »

Me and a colleague were talking about the possibility to create a ram disk and install a game on it and then play it. Wow - that would really rock!!

With plenty of ram installed on the board (2 GByte or so) you could create a 1 gig ram drive and another gig of plain random access mem.

However, my question is: Is there any freeware (and good) tool which can create a ram disk under windows (XP pro here) and the disk is not limited to one hundred mbs or so.

I searched sourceforge and the freeware list here but didn't find anything.

Maybe you can help me - any help appreciated!

Thanx, merendo

what games are 1 gbyte nowadays that requires so much of your pc that you would need a ram disc?

World of warcraft: 4gbyte
Farcry: 3gbyte
HL2: 5.5 gbyte!

and if you have 2 gbyte ram your computer is probaly fast enough to run those games at their best :)

juts my thoughts, though..

I doubt my gfx card would do these games. Actually I was thinking of something not so recent - like q3a, nfsu, stronghold, stronghold crusader, call of duty, striker count and so on - not just to play these games smoo-ooth, but to really play them at an incredible frame rate
