Video Card Poll

Post by localmotion34 »

which video card is better. i have an NVIDIA FX5600, and it just isnt what it used to be. i have a choice between ATI XL850 XT and Nvidia 6800 Ultra Extreme.

I have been told that ATI is like Intel, they overrate their processing speed, while NVIDIA is like AMD

these cards seem pretty much equal, so i need your guys input:

Code: Select all

!.WHILE status != dwPassedOut
! Invoke AllocateDrink, dwBeerAmount
!MOV Mug, Beer
!Invoke Drink, Mug, dwBeerAmount
!.endw

I'll go with NVidia every time, because I've used NVidia all my 'PC' using life, and never once have I had a fault with anyone of them.

heh i have used nvidia most my 'PC' life. Recently i bought an ATI card and my experience is that ATI is so much better than nvidia. Dont listen to people saying "i have been using nvidia all my life that is the best".

i never had a fault with nvidia cards either, but my ATI card is really just a better experience.

another story: one of my friends got a new PC. 512 mbyte ram, 3.2 ghz pentium 4 and an nvidia fx something. i know his card was nearly the same price as my ati wich i bought only a month after...
my 2000+ am athlon XP and 768 mbyte ram, AND my ati card seriously beats his computer in 3d graphics.

i know i got more ram but only 2700 and im pretty sure his was faster. a lot newer computer but still mine beats his!

another thing: there is a test between your 2 graphics cards and the ATI completely beats nvidia in all cases BUT !!microsoft!! flight simulator 2004 test... pretty funny the only thing nvidia wins in is a microsoft game.. i think there was a m$ games more but nvidia won in all the other tests..

a prove on ATI again: these 2 gfx cards cost both 200$:
http://www.techwarelabs.com/reviews/vid ... ex_3.shtml
if you click the next button you can see unreal tests, where ATI beats nvidia again. in 3DMark too. in 1 of the maybe 15-20 tests, nvidia wins in one!

techwarelabs performed the tests, conclusion:
Conclusions
Nvidia is truly losing their grip on in the graphics card market, between these benchmarks and the recent announcement that their cards may be unable to perform anti-aliasing in UnReal2.

Lol even the Ti4200 is better than this one :P, you've been robbed !

Anyway nvidia and ATI use hacked drivers for those speed tests, the only true results you can trust is from 3D Mark 05...

NOTICE: this is comparison between FX6800 ultra and ATI 800xt.. The 800XT is even older than the one you want but it truly beats nvidia.

the last image the ati wins, but nvidia does come close, wich is not the case in the other tests.

The interface on the NVidia PCX cards is not direct, but it is on the ATi cards. (At least that was the case last time I checked).

I've got a GeForce 5200 and there's nothing wrong with it! I play Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 on this computer!

Bloody horrible engine....

Upsss forgot to mention my GF4 beats the crap out of a GF5200 ....

hl2 engine is exellent.! but notice that hl2 is built for dx9 [but the developers were so clever to progam exellent backwards support!] so of course it would run better using a dx9 cards.

but yeah its an exellent engine, runs on older hardware but still puts out an good image! i have my bigger machine with radeon9600xt card wich hl2 runs on in 1024*768 all on medium, without any trouble at all. not just once seen it lacking running unsmootlhy!

also, i have an geeforce 2, 1ghz, 256mb ram, it runs in 640*480, some settings on low, some on medium and it only runs unsmoothly in very few cases, but most of all, the quality is STILL worth looking at!

great engine, great music, great sound, especially great gameplay [allthough some says its a bit short]

Yeah compared with HL1 it's a very small game play, i was expecting much more play time...

But graphicaly it's the most powerfull engine i've seen to date!

The phisics engine is also impecable, which made me end the game in no time....

It's pretty damn cool to face a shooting squad using a table as a shield *hint*

To compensate i already ended it twice, and i'm going for a third run in maximum dificulty....

Just a note, if you plan on using linux in the future, get nvidia. ATI has practically no support for linux and installing thier drivers is practically an all-day process. With nvidia it was a straight-forward install.

i have tried 5 different linux distros and i have run in 1024*768 every time!!

not just 1 time it has been trouble for me... also tried on a friends computer with a newer ati card no trouble at all! thats just some lame shit to say. never had 1 trouble with ati.. the distros i tried with it, no trouble at all: RedHat, debian, Mephis, knoppix, mandrake, dsl.

not much games for linux, but i have run opengl demos on it without trouble.
and installing the drivers is not an all day process unless you dunno what you are doing.

@num3: the table is a good thing but those red flamable barrels arent good for shields! but damn fun to throw after the enemy..!

You will get 2D support with ATI but not 3D. You might not need 3D support but I find the OpenGL screen savers are much cooler. :)
