What's wrong with this forum?

For everything that's not in any way related to PureBasic. General chat etc...

What's wrong with this forum?

Post by fsw »

Is here some sort of censoring?

Just wanted to reply to Swan's comment and after sending my reply, the whole topic was gone 8O

The topic was under General Discussion, about that there are not rivals/competitors for PB.

I mentioned that there is IBpro - and now the topic is deleted....

What's this :?:

If the topic was going off-topic than the admin could have moved it to the OFF-TOPIC section...
There was no flame war, no biting, no screaming... all seemed normal to me.

I don't think that phpBB has the option to move post. The only thing that can be done is deleting it if it's in the wrong area.

As for talking about other programming languages, I don't think anyone is against it here. It's been talked about many times here before. Just recreate your topic in the "Off Topic" area again. I don't see any harm in that. I don't think Fred is worried about any body here using other languages either. Most PB users are pretty devoted to it (PureBasic) and Fred has done a wonderful job on it.

So I would say talk about whatever you want in the "Off Topic" area. Cheers

i've seen only 1 delete thus far, but i've seen a few times that i added a message, that was forgotten by the board... i suppose there may be something buggy in the forum itself...

try and post it again, and see the proof :-)

Hi,
This is the second time that a topic is removed of the forum. I think that the cause is the commentaries on other products.
In different topics from I could yesterday see several opposite opinions of PureBasic that hiligthed to other products.
We must think that these opinions can be said of many forms, but never against PureBasic, since this forum belongs to PureBasic. About my opinion, I think that you topic well is removed because that it must be here.

Sorry for my bad english.

Hi fsw.

I think give the forum the benefit of the doubt. Fred - and I assume his team - are pretty laid back regarding discussion of other products.

Things do happen, but usually only with just cause and great provocation.

I've had some posts deleted (and rightly so) when they were OTT (over the top) or just plain spam inside the important boards (bug reports)

(I've had posts moved as well, so it can be done.)

I have also had posts that double posted and posts that did not post, perhaps through latency issues or perhaps bug on the these forums. No human being involved.

I have never seen or heard of a post being deleted through censorship.

(I have seen threads get locked when they got too heated.)

If your post went missing I think the probability would be forum bug first, web choke second, human error (attempt to move - maybe wrong button pressed, etc) third. Last, and least likely, would be deliberate suppression of your post.

I would give them the benefit of the doubt. Especially as whenever a post of mine has been deleted, a message was posted or a PM sent explaining why. So courtesy was shown.

A thought, and my opinion only - good form would suggest that a post not about PB or one that is critical of PB, or compares PB to other products should be in the Off Topic section.

To @Fred:

As you know I bought PureBasic in 2001. I, from the first moment, have been faithful to PureBasic, possibly because I am a very old programmer (54 years) and am in this profession from 1973 in which I bought my first Olivetti in pseudo-asm and in 1975 my first IBM 5110, that was programmed in IBM-BASIC or APL. This double computer already tapeworm and until 64bits of precision, with mantisa and exponential. I include/understand that from year 1975 I calculate advanced so little due to base 8 of the microprocessors, but the two thousand users we are possibly hoping to a solution to the double precision and to correct calculate in PureBasic with no need to resources to third parts. I feel that this is hard, but the competition advances. Until now always I have liked to my colaboration.
From today on I will only see the forum for reading, but not for sent topics, ask or colaboration.

Sorry,
Manolo

And if you were it would not be a problem either.

We have at least one Blitz Supporter and a hell of a lot of Blitz users here.
Darkbasic, PowerBasic users too
Even Mark Sibly "The creator/Author" Blitz-basic/3D/Plus/Max have postet here.

I read your tread just before it disappeared, there was'nt anything mildly provocative, in the tread
In fact this tread is more provocative, cus it could give you/one the impression that if you say somethimg about anyother language, your post will be deleted, and thats simply not true

It'a phpbb thing, probably a bug.
stay cool fsw 8)

I think you may be over-reacting a little here.

There are many examples of criticism of both Purebasic and other products, as well as praise for both.

I think you are referring to topics that have been raised in the bug reports forum.

The bug resports forums is used by the PB team for tracking outstanding issues, and the team clear out any issues that were either irrelevant or completed.

I think the issues that you are all referring to have probably been removed for this reason.

To avoid losing posts you should avoid discussions in the bug report forum. If a bug report, valid or not, raises issues for discussion raise them elsewhere.

I'm not part of the PB team, so I could be wrong about all this. One thing I am certain of is that the PB team, and Fred in particular, are very open and straightforward people who would not resort to the type of tactics being described here.
