Found another cool Linux distro

After using Knoppix on and off for some time, I've found a new distro that has become my favorite in days.

It is called PCLinuxOS.

It has proven to be extremely stable and pretty fast on my machine. As Knoppix, it is a Live CD and can also be installed on the harddrive.

Everyone who likes Knopiix, should try this distro.

http://www.damnsmalllinux.org - That's currently my favourite build of Linux. A bug in 0.7.x prevents hdd installation on almost every IDE/ATA drive though hehee

I downloaded that yesterday.
Haven't had the chance to try it yet.
Think I will try it today now that I see some positive comments about it

The cool thing about DamnSmallLinux is that it fits on a 50mb business card CD - yet it still has just about everything you might need for internet and multimedia use. It will also run compiled PureBasic apps without any tweaks! I submitted a background image to the author and it has been the default image since version 4.5. I have also submitted some other apps but they have not made it into the distro - yet.

I keep a copy of the DSL in my wallet and its great for recovery situations, which I have used many times. Although having a copy of Linux in your wallet sort of solidifies your nerd status.

I just tried DSL and it couldn't detect my USB mouse.
So I shut it down and now I'm trying a distro from BitDefender.
It's a security/recovery CD based on Knoppix.

Just tried DSL and not even the X-server started. Just wasted another empty CD...

I guess I am just lucky, I've never had any trouble with DSL.

What kind of hardware do you have?
Are you using a brand PC, like HP, Dell or something?

I found an interesting project called Athene OS : it is a layer on top of Linux/Windows wich enhance a lot the gui, doesn't need X, use it's own graphic driver (from Scitech), a boot of 4 seconds (didn't try yet) etc ...
It is a commercial solution (there is a free release and a live cd) but i hope it ll be usefull for some of you

What kind of hardware do you have?

We are a Dell shop where I work - but I have used DSL on alot of hardware other than Dell. I recently created a DSL boot disk for one of those ThinkNic PCs that was popular a couple of years ago and that thing has some seriously obscure parts in it.

I doubt that DSL is compatible with all hardware though, I just have had good luck (so far) with the platforms I have booted from.

Version 0.7.3 of DSL was released today. It has many new features and hopefully some bug fixes. The best new feature is that now you do not need to choose your resolution or mouse type. X started fine with my Logitech USB wheel mouse on a custom built PC (Asus main, GeForce AGP, Intel GHz CPU). I am listening to a shoutcast audio stream on it right now.

It might be better to use CD-RW media for testing new bootable Linux distros. When you find the one you like, then you can invest the 15 cents on a permanent copy..

Woah, now this is the best one i've ever seen!

Fast has hell, and also runs on windows !!!
