fading the screen

Hi,

My program runs in screen mode, but I want to do the following; when a certain button is pressed, I would like the screen to fade a bit, and open a window in front of it with a text message in it. After a number of seconds or another event, the window should disappear and the screen should 'come back'

What would be best, use color controls to fade the screen, or copy the image and do it all a seperate subroutine?
