knoppix... run lynux from a CD!

Post by ricardo »

Hi,

Thanks to a good tip from enainder and others, i order Knoppix in a CD (U$1.50) and now im writing this from lynux without ny installation, just starting my PC from a CD.

Its very nice!

Have a lot of applications, its fast and friendly
:D

Maybe its a good idea to install lynux... but im an absolute newbie.

Could i install PB Lynux in my PC and try to compile something running lynux from a CD?

Thanks

ok, open console (press Ctrl+Alt+F1 or F7 after you bootup)
list partition that you have: "fdisk -l" (take one as /dev/hda1 ...)
and use "mount" command (same as "#mount /dev/hda1 /hda1" )
save something into /hda1

don't know have: how many commands in linux :oops:

@Edwin
I think for PB you have to install Linux to HDD, because you need some Xtra-packages to install to get it run.

@ricardo
Perhaps you speak german ? If so - there were 3 articles in the last 2 editions of the C't referred to Knoppix including Knoppix 3.4 on CD. You can have a look at these articles here: http://www.heise.de/ct/04/04/124/default.shtml

Nop, i speak spanish, don't understand german.

Thanks anyway... im thinking on kill my XP and make a test with linux/wine. :D

I will try to run win32 apps (including PB) but don't deal with windows itself, i am mad because its giving troubles again to me.

Best Regards

I have knoppix, too. And the Manual for it. If the sound doesn't work write in the input line before booting: "boot knoppix alsa" then it will work ;) .
