Good Freeware Stuff

Windows Firewall Control
https://binisoft.org/wfc
A free management tool for Windows Firewall.
Originally it was shareware, then MalwareBytes bought BiniSoft (in 2018) but kept the software as freeware and it is still being maintained.

Re: Good Freeware Stuff
I (already) saw OOP wonders (but the mac/linux updates are still work-in-progress…)
https://openxtalk.org/OXTDownloads.html
Curiously, I get the same problems I had with PB: quoting 'run process' ("monitor shell") stuff…………
Did you "fork" that, Fred?
Anyway, if it doesn't involve pineapple&pizza, I always tend to forgive you…

Re: Good Freeware Stuff
EHhh?? I downloaded/installed it and found the UI way too unintuitive for me to figure out so I uninstalled it. Thought it was going to give me a user friendly UI for the native Windows "Defender" firewall which is a nightmare. I figured out how to disable that MS firewall and have been using the (now hard to find) Free Comodo firewall ever since.luis wrote: Sat Dec 28, 2024 6:34 pm Windows Firewall Control

Re: Good Freeware Stuff
Imagine I was even a registered user when it was shareware.
I disliked Comodo very much, more with any new version, same as with Revo Uninstaller.
Another one is CCleaner, was useful and with any new version became worse and worse.
Sometimes the direction software I previously liked took slowly pushed me to find an alternative.

Yeah; I'm a Mac Maniac, so please forgive me if I think "Windows Firewall" sounds like: "Hmm… OK"

That's the definition of "upgrade", unfortunately.

I see operating systems, that hopefully would become object oriented pearls, are now "digitally signed smarfon store shit"
…anyway they now have "AI"…

Re: Good Freeware Stuff
OK then. I guess we are talking "stupidPhone", commonly referred to as "smartPhone". But that alleged AI is actually in the cloud, because it wont fit on a stupidPhone, which is no Phone at all -- just a stupid pocket computer with a built in phone app and room for many other apps.
I hate stupidPhones.

Ventoy

I use it to store multiple bootable images on a USB disk (recovery tools, windows and linux bootable ISO, etc.) and then select what to boot through its menu.

AAHhhhh, The Trick is if it ain't broke, Do Not use the new version.
"Upgrades" are typically downgrades with broken or removed features.
I don't use the latest Comodo because I don't want to break what I have.
The worst thing about free Comodo firewall is trying to install it without taking the antivirus crap they try too force down your throat.

Sorry Piero. I cannot as the list is too long.Piero wrote: Wed Sep 18, 2024 9:50 pmWhat do you mean?Randy Walker wrote: Wed Sep 18, 2024 3:16 pmRJ text formatting capabilities are unmatched by any other app I have ever seen.
Can you make an example?
Best I can say is try running it to see. They even have a portable version so you can put it a its own folder, test it and delete the folder if you don't like it. Also it is the only text editor I have seen that can highlight, copy and paste columns of text.
The one problem I have with it is, it has so many features, it's kind of hard to figure out how to find and use the right one.
