With other commercial compilers you get free updates (point release) but you pay for upgrades (major release) while with PureBasic you pay once and get any updates or upgrades for free
For over 10 years Fantaisie Software had a fantastic track record
So let the development team take their time and stop whining

Seriously, if it's to write something like this, without any informations just think twice and hold your hand. Development of PureBasic is not discontinued, do you really think we will stop a 10 year more development like this, without any explainations ? The 4.60 version is on its way and should be released early in september, with some beta in between. It takes a while as i have a lot of docs to do for the new commands, and believe it or not: i don't like writing docs . Moreover we both have a daily job since the beginning of the year, so it means less time for PB. It's not the first time i handle both a daily job and PB (did that 5 years over the 10 years of dev), without big impact. We do our best to keep a correct pace of development, but sometimes it's difficult to get back on coding after a full coding day. That's life. I will probably get back fulltime on PB somewhen, so big changes will happen here.
What I have said before is still true: if I have to quit PB for any reasons, I will release the sources, either in Open Source form, or to a closed community which will be able to drive the project. We are not the kind of men which don't keep our words, so please, don't panic if you don't have news from us for a few time.
The Fantaisie Software Team
The "problem" is that the PB guys have done such a terrific job with moving PB forward over the years that we all *notice* when things slow down!
Perhaps a simple but informative blog post in the future might head the speculation off at the pass.
Looking forward to the day when Fred and Freak can work on PB full time again but until then, they still have bills to pay.
Keep up the good work guys.
I think that there should be some kind of yearly subscription fee for PureBasic so that the team can work full time on the product. I for one would not mind a paying a reasonable amount as I use the it in commercial products.

I would not have a problem with this either, as that is how I make my living.

I, too, would be an advocate of this. Or release PureBasic Pro that has it for commercial use, and releases come earlier to Pro versions.

First of all, I don't think PureBasic can support two developpers fulltime, even if there are things like ongoing fees. The userbase is just too small for that. Secondly, I don't think I'd want to work on PB fulltime even if money was no issue. Its just not something I want to do all day.
And this is why you are not bored already IMHO, so keep working at your pace !
PureBasic is the work of passionate people (I think from that I've read), and this is why it keep getting better.

At least he's honest.
Well, given the speed with which he and Fred can fix bugs maybe he doesn't need to work on it full time!

that's something I can understand completely - if you spend too much time and energy on a single task, even if it's something you love, it can become a chore.
merci beaucoup pour tout votre travail dur sur PB
