You're right in that it was a lack of 'proper' regulation. England had more regulation than you could shake a stick at, we had so much regulation there were three different institutions to impose them all (the Financial Services Authority, the Bank Of England and the Treasury - collectively referred to as the triumvirate), the problem was the regulations were created by Gordon Brown and he's a firkin balloonatic. What has been quite apparent from the fallout from the crisis was neither the government nor the regulators had the slightest understanding of what the bankers actually did.
Gordon Brown is so delusional he claimed, on more than 100 occasions, in the House of Commons that he had put 'an end to boom and bust'. There again maybe he was right about that, we now just have bust and even more bust.
Now he puffs himself up and pontificates about how he saved the banks when what he actually did was use hundreds of billions of pounds of British tax payers money to prop up failed businesses (when all he should have done was underwrite the depositors) and now the bankers are pi55ing themselves with laughter because they're pocketing that money too. Gordon Brown will swan off into retirement with a very handsome pension having deprived at least one generation of working class people the possibility of ever retiring.
He's also effectively shafted the banks that behaved responsibly who should now be seeing the field clearing as their wayward competitors fall by the wayside.

Now, seriously, world is in serious problems, like poverty of few ones who die by hungry, etc.
Yes, the world has a problem. We are too many, and we consume more than is sustainable by either nature or technology.
We need to do things differently and smarter, or mother nature will just do to the human race what she has done to any other lifeform that isn't good enough, kill it off and move on.

Population is growing dangerously, and there will be took some acton to stop it, or may be the action is random without any human purpose.
But now We are not too many for anything, utopiomania. May be you someday say any true?
Foz wrote:Not if we can kill off mother nature first!

That is one of the points, you have understood something, Foz.
Nature transforming in order to adapt it to human needs and limitations, started since human is in Earth.
But the own nature of human (his needs and limitations) must also be modified from the root; this is the starting point where our generation (2000-2100) is located in story.
So things could be interesting soon in many aspects.

One of my colleages in Argentina translates some critical and significative messages, this one of them, (german and english language, with spanish subtitles):
"To liberate us from 'work' means also: to liberate us to be able to work"

Since 15 January 2011: in 20 languages and in 60 different countries:
Zeitgeist: moving forward.
With "the new Carl Sagan": Dr. Michio Kaku, and other greatest minds in the earth.
http://www.zeitgeistmovingforward.com/
Also at:
http://thezeitgeistmovement.com/
http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/
etc.
By the way, i forgot the main concept of the movement "crunched" in the "Zeitgeist Movement Activist and Orientation Guide". Here you have it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ngs-tOybJc
In that document just only 2 criticism:
1.- Human personal interests are not generated by the monetary system, but it is absolutely and hardly encouraged by it.
2.- Human race is NOT a rational one. So, The Zeitgeist Movement and others can try to change that, but probably in fact only sciences and technologies will change it accidentallly, with no kind of aim.
Salut!

Zeitgeist is the most successful fraud of the century. First, from what I have seen so far, every single scientists that has said "we HAVE to..." has been proven wrong, when it comes to the environment. I agree that we need to take care of our environment and pollute as little as possible. However, political movements spawned by environmental religion never pan out for extended periods, and to date, all (that I'm aware of) have proven false. (Remember the Global Cooling panic of the 70's. REAL scientists who scoffed at it were at risk of losing their jobs.)
As far as the zeitgeist religion goes, or rather, its complaint of the Christian one, that has got to be the poorest example of research I have ever seen! It's obvious that the guy has no formal training in research. There are NUMEROUS refutations of his drivel--and it is called that by both Christian and non-Christian (atheists and also other belief) religious scholars. As such, I won't fill pages here, but here are just two simple examples:
1. Claim: "Christs birth on December 25th was 'stolen' from other religions." Well, DUH!!!! He WASN'T born on Dec 25!!! That date was chosen as a convenient date, based on some other religious holiday. Jesus was born in the fall (sept-oct), not December, no legit scholar will claim he WAS born on December 25th. Peter Joseph is an idiot, and so is anybody who follows him!
2. Claim: "The account of the virgin birth was stolen." Well, sure, if you call a ROCK (i.e. stone, as in sticks and stones) a virgin. Or if you think a DEAD GUY impregnating a woman still qualifies her as a virgin. Or if you think the woman who already had seven sons (with a man) is still a virgin.
He clearly takes quotes from novelists and turns them into "research." Don't waste your time with this garbage.

It start's to become interesting at 03:40
All that we need is to see a bigger picture of reality,
and understanding will come automatically.

After Egypt, Iceland, Greece, Spain, etc. started the complaining against local and global corruption ...
...while in White House there are not consensus since only some months ago; NASA and other international researching institutions are falling down in free falling since 2010; politicians (which are in fact business people, and not politicians) are completely disorientated and ignorants of the reality...
The systemic bug is nowadays lightning more and more. System is an error itself like you all probably will see sooner than most of you think.

I am sure some of you, here in this forum, are living in New York city.
Well, things are going ahead, slowly of course. Take in account there is need we all in the world want to begin building the first human civilization on Earth planet, and so then there is needed to re-educate every human; and of course this is a hard hard task.
Well, at the moment we can follow a direct video streaming from NY:
http://www.livestream.com/avaazwallstreet
There, in New York is located the so called "Wall Street", where is one of the worldwide epicenter of the indecence and corruption since decades ago. Now, thanks to technology which gave as the Internet, more and more people begins to understand this deep sistemic sickness, and so then they start to move to stop this and build a new scene of human collaboration to discover more and more about nature,... treating to finally overpass the continuous absurd and nonsense interhuman competition.
15o is historically and internationally an important date, of course.

Occupy Wall Street will either
A) fade into obscurity by failing to become a movement, because nobody has a plan / knows what they want to do.
or
B) Stick around long enough to severely damage the DNC, since it has decided it is going to be linked at the hip with the OWS protesters (who...don't have a plan, and just want to take rich peoples money because they are rich: sorry, hating rich people because they are rich is not a legitimate platform)
As for the original topic of this thread... I've read my fair share of article pointing out all the B.S
Just another "loose change" in my book.
That is all.

Exactly
ALL humans and the companies they run or invest in or work for respond to incentives.
If you reward incredibly poor or fraudulent performance, there will be more to follow.
"Too big to fail" is a myth promoted by insiders and charlatans.
We all know the sweetest fruit comes from the smallest plant.
It is a fact that forces the farmer to prune early and often.
Not allowing the Market to perform this service automatically leads to the unnatural selection mess we have now.
And worse, we are doomed to repeat the downward spiral as politicians tinker with the recovery.

This guy Peter Joseph has woken up a lot people around the world and i would like to thank him for that. There is needed more and more people like him, who act as master. Needed that masters have dis-learned what was learned when very young, and have been re-educated himselves with simple ideas like: "What you don't want for yourself, don't want then for any other one". Che Guevara, current President of Nicaragua, President of Bolivia, President Cuba... are masters too.
NOTICE: With "master" i mean person who has to wake up to other blinded, dead, and sleep minds.
