If you don't like what he writes, ignore it. But I would stop showing people the door. Your damaging the reputation of this board and thus the reputation of PB. You're sending the message that newbies that have not already puchased PB are not welcome here.

So? I do that all the time, if I'm about to make an investment. For some people 80 bucks are peanuts and for some people have to save money for months so they can afford it.

Just leave it instead of scaring away the newbies. They'll go on their own if they find PB is not for them. And if not they might be smarter than you or more experienced in programming in general and help you out some time.

Well, I'm not in to any kind of forum wars.
...but remember, a gentle answer turns away wrath. If your newbie greeters were more tolerant of newbie questions (who are often going to have preconceived notions), then it would be less likely to end in a flamewar. If my temperament matched those of your worst offenders, then my posts WOULD have contributed to a flamewar. But, it's clear to see that I won't participate..not heavily, anyway.

For me, it's not about the $80--heck, it could be 5x that; I don't care--I'm no longer a starving student. Besides, VB and Mono are free, and many other options. For me, it's about the tool. I probably add an excel file every week to help choose a tool. (And yes, sometimes I choose the training wheels!)

Trust me when I say it will be very rare that you guys see this number of posts from me in a short period of time...

I'm somewhat (but not too much) surprised by the vehemence of the attacks. It wasn't all that long ago that I was a newbie and I did not recall encountering any animosity so I just took my Tardis back to August 2007 to refresh my memory. My first post appears to have been about having ordered/paid for PB but not receiving any response (for two days). There was some glitch and Fred took care of it quickly. Nearly all of the user responses to my post were welcoming. But, maybe that was because I had already committed to PB and made favorable comments.

I went on to ask my share of newbie type questions but, by and large, responses were positive and helpful. I did later encounter one nasty flame from one of the usual suspects. As it was obvious that he had either not read or not comprehended (most probable) my question/comment, I just put him in my Foes list so I wouldn't have to deal with him. He's still there.

I also think that such nastiness probably costs PB some converts. Those who are trolling for flames are usually obvious by their second post and the moderators seem to do a good job of dealing with them by locking such threads.

Well, as expected, it surprisily ended as a flamewar. Locked.
