Just cause you say Ubuntu is crap, doesn't make it so. Ubuntu is not perfect, but it is in its infancy really.
In order for any linux to put up a good fight against windows, it has to become more like windows.... so yes, make it piss easy for new users, but have good support and paths to show users how powerfull it is under the hood...
So far Ubuntu is doing a pretty damn good job on that front, but it is buggy. just like debian used to be!
personally I do prefer debian, but I tend to stick to stable versions, just so I know drivers work etc. It is all to easy to say "hey this unstable, potentially system destroying version of debian is the best!" when it really could ass rape your pc if you decided to install it for real. hell, it is so much easier to sit back and dist-upgrade later
