Good PAID Software -- Your Favorites

1) Macrium Reflect
https://www.macrium.com/products/home
Being using it from 2010, every day it makes files-backup and partition-images of my stuff and saved me so much time and data it's practically priceless. It has a nice scheduler, incremental and differential backups, and after being configured it does everything automatically.
2) Native Instruments Guitar Rig
https://www.native-instruments.com/en/p ... rig-7-pro/
I'm using it from the 5.x version.
There are valid free alternatives but this is very polished, versatile and sounds good.
3) PureBasic
It's useful, compact, easy and quick to use and fun to work it.
4) Total Commander
https://www.ghisler.com/
Works locally, through WebDAV, FTP, it's easy and quick to use, it has a powerful compare functionality to keep in sync different volumes/directories. It also supports the old 4DOS DESCRIPT.ION format for files.
5) Console Calculator
http://www.zoesoft.com/console-calculator/
I use it every day, simple and effective.
6) XYplorer
https://www.xyplorer.com/
I find pretty incredible it is written in Visual Basic 6
and many games !

1) PureBasic, of course.
2) Total Commander (see Luis' post).
BTW: PureBasic is very good for creating DLLs that can work as plug-ins for Total Commander.
3) EditPad Pro
The best general purpose text editor that I know (after having tried many).
4) Macrium Reflect (see Luis' post).
5) PDF-XChange Editor

Oh, I thought this was the "off topic" forum. My bad.AZJIO wrote: Sat Dec 21, 2024 6:58 pmDon't talk about this on a Linux forum, you won't have enough knowledge to prove it. 30 years working with SCO, Redhat, Centos, and some dabbleing in Ubuntu + Debian, so I think I'm qualified to say Linux just doesn't cut it, when it comes to simplicity and user friendliness. Not to mention vast array of software options. Linuxers can't admit it but fact is the world just revolves around Windows. That can't change as long as they insist on keeping it too complicated to operate in the real world.
Hmmm. Is it linuxers or Linuxonians? Ehhh, moot point.

Android is based on Linux, the number of android users is probably more than the number of Windows users.
There are 60 thousand packages in the Linux repository.
In the absence of Linux, the price of Windows would be comparable to the price of a car due to the lack of a competitor.
If you think this is off topic, then why make provocative stuffing? For Windows, the bootloader cannot load other operating systems, but the Linux bootloader can. Linux servers have always been considered stable. Unlike older versions, modern ones automatically connect to the Internet, and the OS has any software. I use some Linux programs on Windows, for example MPV, which has hotkey settings, no Windows player can boast of such freedom of configuration. Cinnamon can go to sleep instantly and wake up as well, Windows requires an SSD for this feature. Windows does not have support for black themes.

Ok, Ok. I have to concede. All that does make Linux simpler and more user friendly than Windows.
Aside from the comments above, I have never heard anyone boasting about Android being a derivative of Linux, and yes it is and relatively user fiendly, BIG thanks to Google play. Maybe the Linux community could take lessons from the Android developers.
All my experience with Linux and I was still too intimidated to attempt an install of PureBasic on any flavor of Linux -- long before the brain surgery.

Xara Designer Pro
I've been using it decades. It's basically Photoshop and Dreamweaver combined. Photoshop has a few more features around raster editing; XDP is mostly vector but has some raster stuff.
Side Note: Android/AOSP is Linux but it exposes nothing around bash and package management and terminal. All the apps are ART bytecode sandboxed with SELinux and ART restrictions. The boot-chain and store-apk are also signed you need exploits used through adb to install things like LineageOS, and it instantly voids warranties.. Android also has massive telemetry just like IOS, MacOS, and Windows.. Android is also remotely hacked typically using JIT/Browser to kernel&GPU exploit chains just like IOS, MacOS, Windows, and Linux.

I probably forgot the wonderful Amadeus Lite (Mac): you can open MP4 (video) files, apply audio adjustments, close, and get your movie better…
Re: Good PAID Software -- Your Favorites
Even better is Amadeus Pro, Apple unfortunately lost me as a Mac user after the complete and utter neglect of their screen reader, but back when I used it for everything Amadeus Pro was the only audio editor I used.Piero wrote: Sun Dec 29, 2024 8:12 pm I probably forgot the wonderful Amadeus Lite (Mac): you can open MP4 (video) files, apply audio adjustments, close, and get your movie better…

Windows 3.1, 3.11, 98, XP, 8.1 and 10 !
What I appreciate on Microsoft : a very big unified documentation.
All the rest on Microsoft is hard to consider right : software patents (that is not the Microsoft the guilty who validates any softwared patents abusively. But Microsoft uses a lot this.), loss of old and stable features. updates working as if a computer was a toy...

Sorry to see PureBasic did not make it into your list.
My MS list is much the same as yours except for a few exclusions that I did use and didn't like, so just; 95, XP and the rest suck.
Not so much that it is a toy, but a toy they think they own, with no regard for those who actually paid for the toy.

One I forgot to mention I just can't say enough good about this guy:
Super genius, Steve Gibson products are all written in Assembly.
His landmark achievement being "SpinRite" Hard drive recovery and maintenance.
He also offers a number of freeware items: https://www.grc.com/sr/spinrite.htm
Seems impossible to me that he can do all his amazing apps in assembly.
BTW -- SpinRite runs best off a USB drive, but you must buy to use it at all.

I keep a copy of this for predicting magnetic drive failure using S.M.A.R.T data. Even though most stuff is QLC NAND based SSD now days; I believe it only does mode 3/4/5 on SSD. It also doesn't handle a lot of wear-level friendly file systems like f2fs.Randy Walker wrote: Wed Jan 01, 2025 3:10 am One I forgot to mention I just can't say enough good about this guy:

You should watch his video. He used it to recover his wife's SSD that wouldn't boot. and he explains how that's possible.tj1010 wrote: Wed Jan 01, 2025 3:40 am I keep a copy of this for predicting magnetic drive failure using S.M.A.R.T data. If you're looking for great paid software, I highly recommend FileLocator Pro by Mythicsoft. It's a powerful tool that can index all sorts of files, including PureBasic files, making it incredibly versatile. I use it to search through a file structure with over 500,000 files, and it almost always finds what I need in just seconds.
What really stands out is how helpful and efficient it is—I have it set up to automatically reindex every day, so my searches are always up-to-date. The license cost is very reasonable, especially considering how much time and frustration it saves me. Honestly, it's the best money I spent last year. Highly recommended!
