Ha! I have... let's see... 3 Linux boxes around me, 4 if you count swap-out drives, oops just discovered another. Of course I am await the next PB4Linux release to really stretch them

Fang, all my boxes could run XP easy. Its just taht the "thing" is totally obnoxious. It gets to my nerves, always getting in my way, with its "user friedliness". To quote a movie:
"I mean, down here there are literally hundreds and thousands of blinking, beeping, and flashing lights, blinking and beeping and flashing -- they're flashing and they're beeping. I can't stand it anymore! They're blinking and beeping and flashing! Why doesn't somebody pull the plug!"
Unfortunatelly, theres no "plug" in XP. Even classic mode sucks, cause its just a skin. Look and feel and operation went out the window.
Fred, good point. How many years did it take to discontinue NT4 support? Lots. How many bigboxes (ie companies) upgraded to W2K servers a while after it came out? Lots. How many did the move to XP servers.... erhmmmm, right.. Home users did the upgrade.... ,)
Hey its because XP is a lot faster. Sure, get an amiga, install Executive and make it bump the foreground process priority like its going out of style. Background tasks pay the price but most users will never notice it.....
dmoc, nice try, no cigar. I wont bear with an OS wich has a gfx shell that makes windows look fast. Besides, i do gfx 4 a living, and no, GIMP wont cut it.
Now, if Fred made PB (or someone did a reasonable language) for QNX, then were talking a whole new ball game. i like QNX. Small, Gui behave nice, look isnt bad, feel is ok. Felt stable when i used it. No apps, cause either u code C or u dont. An easy lang like PB could swing a few users the QNX way.

NightShade, I'm not trying to convert anyone! I was an MS user for many years, still have Win98 on several boxes and still a big fan of MS Office but I'm unlikely (make that "never") to "upgrade" to XP or anything else MS now come up with. I only came to Linux after doing the costing for starting up a business requiring two servers. After spending 10 long days learning and configuring Linux I never touched NT again and have never regret my decision. As far as speed goes, KDE on my 600MHz pentium box with GF2 card runs 3D gfx apps and multimedia no problem (I've never used GIMP). Admittedly KDE on my 7 year old 200MHz laptop is a bit sluggish but then I'm running Apache, MySQL and PHP as well so I can't complain! The biggest gain for me was being able to build kernel's optimised for specific machines although I fully understand that for some people the learning curve and the options opened by Linux are more than they care to consider. Conclusion: if you like Windows stick with it.

Nightshade, I like your posts, they are very funny and I can sure use the humour. There is a plug in XP, it's called the Big Red switch :) And that last one of yours to dmoc is simply the best.
