Buy a new Google Air, with Google Chrome OS!
Actually that's not a bad idea! Google, are you listening?
That's why I don't have a WP7, my phone uses Android. Speaking of which, I just got an update from Android 2.2 to 2.3.3.the.weavster wrote:You can with a Windows PC but you can't with a WP7 device, M$ are copying the Apple walled-garden model. Once NOKIA have been moved over from Symbian to WP7 the ability to develop your own software and install it on your own NOKIA smart phone without any involvement of any third party will be gone.
Simple solution to that, don't upgrade to Windows 8 and don't buy anything that has Windows 8 already on it unless you can wipe it and install the OS of your choice.the.weavster wrote:Windows 8 is supposed to be a universal OS, PCs, tablets and smart phones will all run the same OS, so which way will M$ go then? Will you have to get your PureBasic program signed and approved by M$ before you can install it on your own Windows 8 device?

Android is cool, unfortunately with Google you've got the snooping/profiling issue.GWarner wrote:That's why I don't have a WP7, my phone uses Android. Speaking of which, I just got an update from Android 2.2 to 2.3.3.
You can do that already without having to accept the limitations of a walled garden - just install Linux.skywalk wrote:In a "walled garden" OS can I finally drop any and all antivirus software and unleash the true power of my computer?
Samsung have already stated they're not interested in webOS. HTC have said they are contemplating a new OS but went on to make very flattering remarks about MeeGo on the NOKIA N9 so I don't think webOS is their preferred option.skywalk wrote:Some are considering licensing webOS. Samsung, HTC, etc.
I read that was a bogus report. It didn't really seem to make sense either as the TouchPad had more RAM and a faster processor that the iPad.skywalk wrote:I read somewhere that webOS ran twice as fast on existing iPads than the latest TouchPad.
Not to place too much emphasis on polls, but this contradicts your intuition...the.weavster wrote:Samsung have already stated they're not interested in webOS. I'm not really surprised by that poll, webOS is available on devices you can get your hands on right now and already has a fair number of enthusiasts, a MeeGo handset has yet to hit the streets. I've no doubt HTC have had a good look at both in the flesh though.skywalk wrote:Not to place too much emphasis on polls, but this contradicts your intuition...

@GWarner: You don't have to be hiding anything to have a cause to fear a snoop. It is the snoop that is up to no good, not you. Simply put, Google seems to have a problem with respecting the privacy of individuals and wants to profit from selling access to what would be their private information. Example.GWarner wrote:Issue for who? So far I've not had any issues with Google. They can snoop all they want for whatever good it does them, I'm not doing anything I shouldn't be so I have nothing to hide and nothing to fear from snoops.the.weavster wrote:Android is cool, unfortunately with Google you've got the snooping/profiling issue.
Why are you so negative about almost anything and everything anyone says or thinks? Maybe you should seek professional psychiatric help for your problem. Or are you just a troll looking to start an argument?

You're rightDemivec wrote:If your opinion of the.weavster is that he seems too paranoid, I'm sure his opinion of you would be that you seem too naive.
Well, it seems it isn't going to be this way at all, this suggests applications wont even be cross-compatible between Windows 8 ARM tablets and Windows 8 x86 PCs: http://informationweek.com/news/windows ... /231601473the.weavster wrote:Windows 8 is supposed to be a universal OS, PCs, tablets and smart phones will all run the same OS,

I'm not worried, stressed or paranoid, I'd rather just avoid snoopers whenever possible. It's just a sensible precaution to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of fraud, much like shredding your mail before putting it in the rubbish. I also object on principle, I hope the EU's new e-privacy law will really clamp down on these activities.GWarner wrote:Maybe it's my choice not to live my life in constant worry and paranoia over what other people know about me that makes it hard to understand why people would choose to live with all that worry, paranoia, and the stress they create.

The EU market is plenty big enough that they wont decide any such thing, they'll take the hit and live with it just like M$ did.GWarner wrote:Be careful what you wish for, if the EU keeps clamping down on what businesses can and can't do, many will decide to just stop doing business in the EU rather than put with the restrictions.
Oh I see, if I take simple precautions to protect my privacy I'm being contradictory and it's proof I'm worried. So what is it when you do it?GWarner wrote:You contradict yourself, that you go through all the things you do to "protect yourself" prooves that you are worried.the.weavster wrote:I'm not worried, stressed or paranoid, I'd rather just avoid snoopers whenever possible. I don't want to become a victim of fraud so I do take a few simple precautions like shedding anything I thow out that has what I consider sensitive information on it. I run my browser in a sandbox that gets emptied automatically when my system starts up and can also be emptied any time I want. So far it has been enough.
