http://www.purebasic.com/ordering.php

Select the online option, enter the requested data and then you can select PayPal if you like.

Yes you can, when ordering, after you enter your name, address and e-mail address, the next page asks you which payment service you want to use, one of the choices is PayPal.

Well, we'll all be discussing the PB commercial model very soon, won't we? :-)

(Though, to be honest, you might be right. It's Fred's call. I can imagine two different licenses, 10 bucks for 2 months download period, and full price for lifelong download period... or something similar, not sure if that has ever been done before.)

Another model would be full price for one or two years download access, then a small yearly fee each subsequent year of download access. The idea here is to make some money off the initial sale, then use the yearly subscription to support on-going development of the product.

I already follow this model through donations because I love PureBasic and want to see it become the best it possibly can be.

My post was just something I have been thinking about for a long time, although directed at PB, I don't want to discuss their business model..

BUT (sorry) if they sold it for 4$, they could suddenly sell it to a much younger group of customers than today, both in Europe and the US, and in emerging markets like China and India, which have huge populations.

Selling 100 million copies to youngsters in Eu, US, China, India etc at 4$ is more profitable than selling 10000 copies to fat Europeans or Americans with high salary jobs.

Depending on what you sell, I think this can be the way to go in general. If you sell software on a global market over the net, you need to take into concideration the differences in byuing power.

If the price is low enough, you could also sell major releases at the same price, and get rid of the upgrade for free problem.

Again, the ideas are just thoughts I have for selling software, I don't care what PBs business model is, and this post is off topic, because this is in the offtopic section. :)

That's a terrible idea, I'd have to compete with 100 million new developers, all of whom are likely to have far better ideas than me.........

Not to mention they'd also be willing to work for a lot less than you would...

Too true, unfortunately... :(

And not just software either! From personal experience:

Back when I worked for a company that manufactured a specific type of medical equipment, we were approached by someone in China that wanted to be an authorized reseller of our product in China. A deal was struck and he bought two machines. A couple of months later we were puzzled that there were no orders from him and no contact from him either. A couple of months after that we found out that they had taken our machines apart, figured out how they worked and how to make them, then went into musiness for themselves making and selling equipment built for our designs that they stole. After that we chose to not to do any more business with any body or any company that had roots in Asia. We'd been burned once by an Asian based company and we were determined not to let it happen again. Not that it mattered, with this company selling cheap knock-offs of our equipment much of the Asian market was closed to us anyway.

What I could never figure out was, after they steal from people like this, they don't seem to understand why no one wants to do business with them!

PureBasic is worth the money, so , buy it, I bought since it's 2.6 and I'm still using it now.

Otherwise, if you do Win32/Linux/DOS only, FreeBasic does the job and is free.
