Re: My Electric Ride...
Rook Zimbabwe, if you don't have anything else to say here than to try to ridicule me, then please leave?
My 'electric rides' means something special to me, and I think more and more people will feel
the same as this technology will become available to everyone.
To be able to cruise along without a sound is a fantastic experience, and makes you feel part of
the solution, rather than the problem.

Re: My Electric Ride...
Looks like a very cool bike to me
.....I like the Geoff too though, each to his own.
Not sure that electric vehicles are the ultimate green solution though. Depends on how the electricity is generated, and how the batteries are disposed of too. Currently in the UK, it would take more than a day to travel from London, England to Glasgow, Scotland by electric car because the charging points are few and far between (and charging times not pretty). Definitely the scooters are a better implementation of the technology at the moment.

Of course, but the fuel you put on your tank is 'generated' too, and not in a veryDepends on how the electricity is generated
environmentally friendly way, I'm afraid.
All in all, electric transportation is much better for us all. Check out the well to
wheel calculator called optiresource to see for your self.

Well, the greenest sources for huge amounts of electricity are Nuclear power plants. To support a rapid growth of electric-power vehicles, some governments are going to opt for Nuclear - the UK already has. Like everyone else perhaps, I like the sound of the benefits that Nuclear brings, but I don't want to live next door to the power plant........so I'm hoping that other initiatives come to the fore.

Nuclear powerplants wil switch from fission to fusion in a few decades. Until that
happens hydroelectric plus fission powerplants are our greenest alternatives..

Re: My Electric Ride...
Picked up my new electric scooter yesterday, here's my first impressions:
-It is very well put together, it is white, looks sharp, and is barely larger than a moped.
-It starts off slow, but after 3m, the acceleration is quite shocking
up to its speed limit
of more than 100km/hr.
-It handles very well. Nothing touches the ground at high speed cornering.
-It has LED daylight/turning/brake light bulbs.
-The LiFePo battery charged up very quickly after a 50km test drive at high speeds
-The scoot is Chinese, with Uk made motorcontroller, Israeli software, all brought together by
an US company.
Visit plugindrivetech.com for more info.

The "greenest" ! Saying that after Fukushima !?IdeasVacuum wrote:Well, the greenest sources for huge amounts of electricity are Nuclear power plants. Re: My Electric Ride...
.....did I say there wasn't a potential downside?
I think my last sentence recognises that there is. The fact remains, if you can make Nuclear safe(?), then the environment is not changed as it is by almost every other major method of power generation currently in service, including wind turbines, hydroelectric generators etc as well as the fossil-fuel burners. Many of us believe however that the risk is too great.
I'd like to see more effort going into innovations like this:
http://www.reuters.com/video/2008/06/13 ... eoId=84561
I don't know if this particular idea has merit, but it seems to me that the 'small guys' are not given enough backing, they are squashed down by large corporates that can influence governments.

Re: My Electric Ride...
I understand you, I reacted on words. Actually, you CAN'T say that nuclear is the greenest. In the future, if science gives us the power to do so safely, without the actual terrific mining conditions, and a solution for nuclear waste, ok. We have to be very carefull on how to say all of that, because the democraty rules don't apply. Dangerous nuclear power plants are all around the world, it is our responsability to say "no!" in the actual conditions, and to choose the safier energy sources for us, our childs, in a clean environment. I don't way to live in a "Blade Runner" world!

There could be sulfuric acid rain in nature tooutopiomania wrote:I wouldn't mind at allI don't way to live in a "Blade Runner" world!Remember the final film frames of that movie, pure nature..
But life, yeah, life! From the very first geologic world to the incredible evolving, battling, exchanging forms of life, all these 3bn years combinations are worth a little respect
Just imagine how to create a little simulation of that. Even in accelerated mode, how much processing power and time would it need? Even the simplest form, in appearance, is an incredible chaos result, and working phenomenon.

Re: My Electric Ride...
An update: My electric car doesn't work since Aug 8. The manufactorer went bancrupt, and the dealer don't know how to fix it.
The PDT scooter developed a motor problem after 800km's, and my garden shed where it was stored burnt down the day before I planned to take it to the dealer for repair.
The garden shed had no electricity installed, and the scooter had a big hole in the battery box the
day after, so guess what happened, $75000 worth of damage.
