Hehehe, well I'm a happy man today. Telewest (blueyonder) broadband are upgrading me for free to a 5mb connection WOOOOOOHOOOOOOO

. At least this company knows how to look after it's existing customers

. although, those on the next package up from me are getting a free upgrade to 10mb! But £50(GBP)(€73.60 EUR) per month is a little bit tooooo expensive for my liking

I dont know whats going on with ISPs.. but I know countries has been getting more and more fiber optic uplinks ... that might be the cause.
we can produce that many fiber optics that we dont know what to do with it already. its very cheap to make now adays.

yup.. but thats the expensive part - upstream.
But many ISPs has small company plans though.. you can make it as you like. Say you need 2mbps of upstream, you can have it - but you'll have to pay for it as well.

Nothings free in this life.

Uba Uba...
I have a subscription 2048kb/256kb DSL with 10Gb download limit per month for 22.50€ + phone calls. (Thing is, the connection is not limited, it's not unusual to reach 300 or 400Kb on a download!)
I pretty much i'm saving about 30euros a month since i changed ISP+phone provider!
I usually download a couple of DVD's per month and i never reached the 10Gb limit, i also have 2 computers on the network...

Same here. The thing is, BitTorrent is claimed to be the best app for
downloading big files, fast -- such as TV shows, CD images, etc. I've
never seen it go fast AT ALL. I use Shareaza too and the downloads
are much faster there for any given file.
When I download things like Linux distros I mainly use torrents, it isn't only the speed of the hostings machines connections that counts, but also the server where the tracker is installed on that counts.
If I find a fast tracker I can download at abit over 500 kb/s on my 4 mbit line.

Duh...
That's because they don't want you to be able to set up a home server...
ATM there's a 16384 kbps (download) / 512 kbps (upload) option here in Portugal...
Costs 85€ and has an 80Gb traffic limit!
