Many here (I am not one of them) will not touch third-party resources for the reasons I mentioned. Most of those (based on the posts here over the years) agree that being open source is a solution to the problem. However, when an open source resource also receives complaints about it no longer working, perhaps the actual problem is not the perceived problem? If somebody does not have the skills to update the code for their needs are they going to have the skills to utilize and implement the code into their projects once it has been updated? In this case it might be better if the person went with another free solution that does not need updating. This might be more "manageable" until they can develop their skills further.
