UserLibraries Forum?

Post by naw »

Just a thought - how about a specific Forum for UserLibs. If a seperate sticky thread is shown for each Library, then us dumb users can easily work out if the Library works well - any associated problems and (most importantly) if the author is still alive ;-)

I saw other items about including UserLibs into the standard PB distribution, a seperate Forum would easily let the users determine what they feel comfortable about using and may close the debate about what gets included in the base distribution and what doesnt.

naw, what a great idea !. I´m agree with you, and what about to design contests to create libs with our (the users) wishes to PB have ?. The winners may gain a prize like a new PureBasic licence to make a gift to a friend... or so.
I think all us gonna win, because PB can increase his users fans, make a better language with a lot of libraries an become more popular.
Another idea may be create a web magazine with users contributions and articles to learn basics and more advanced topics. This initiative can be financed with some advertices of somes companys like...PureBasic!! ;)

If one or more people would like to write one, I'm glad to offer my website www.purearea.net for hosting, but sorry - I've no time to take part in writing....

Just an idea, but why not create a PB program to manage / collect and generate the page?

Using XML and CSS styles, you only need to update the database (xml) to update the entire site...

Here's an extra i made i a couple of minutes :D

Hi, I think the problem there is time - anything that take time to set up / manage will ultimately not be updated. I thought a forum, cos - well the forums already exist and its in the right place (the Official PB WWW site).
I guess the other place might be the PB Resource site, but then someone has to go to the trouble of coding their own Forums which would dilute the value of these official Forums.

Nice thing about PB is that there's only a coupl of sites to visit to find _exactly_ what you want.

I don't think, the problem is creating such a site.
The problem is that such a site needs a lot of users, most important,
users with experience, who write atricles, to make the site grow.
That takes much more people and time, than creating the site itself.

Have a look here: (this is the kind of thing you ask for)
http://pb.darkunicornproductions.com/

It is dead. And not because the site is bad, but because nobody is there.
Maybe the Community is still a bit too small for that.

Hi, Agree - so a *Pure Forum* is the easiest and most useful solution, I think. Very important not to dilute the community resources by having many sites that do *similar* things.

While we enhance PB, I feel that there should be a tutorial section on the PB web site. This is where we can place tutorials like how to create your own libraries etc and this can then be updated into the help (offline version) rather than trying to search for it in the forums.
