Need game - Fast

Post by Dare2 »

I have an earning concept and I need to write a game, fast!

I will get only one shot at this. If the concept works then afterwards the big players will take it up and I will be out of the running. But that one shot can, on a simple projection, be anything from good to huge in financial terms.

It doesn't really matter what the game is (however tetris, et-al are not in the running). But point-click adventure, RPG, strategy, etc etc are ok.

The game need not be brilliant (but it must be playable and have some depth). Because of the timeframes involved it should not require superb graphics, sound, etc, or be too complex to develop. (It cannot be 3D-ish, or require heavy artwork, voice, etc as this would blow out the development time).

I would prefer to write it in PureBasic, to minimise learning curve, etc, again because of the timeframe. However I am willing to go with another language if (A) I think I can handle it, and (B) there is a good reason for this (eg a legally "free to use for any purpose" core or engine that provides a gain on time overall)

So I am asking for some help. If you know of ..
  • Good tutorials on games (Gameplay, AI techniques, algos, etc).
Good sources and/or utilities, dll's that are free or inexpensive to use.
    Good resources ditto
Please let me know.

(Obviously I am hunting around for these myself but I value your input.)

I must have this "on the shelves" before Christmas, so say 1st December. This is a preference as it will boost things, but it is not a necessity. A later release will still work, just reduces the nett a bit.

I have given myself the rest of this month to learn, assess and finalise on the game, and to end October to put it together. If that happens I can hit the Christmas period ok, packaged and marketing and etc.

Thank you!

Hi,

Thanks for that. :)

From your review I assume you have also checked through other tutorials, etc. Have you any online links that you think might also be useful?

Thanks again.
