Well.. the match just ended (football) and we made 2 goals.. they.. well.. they know how to build piramids, we don't.
I think next match is against germany (possibly..) .. Lets see who wins!..
"Music Non-Stop"
I just recently discovered Kraftwerk (i have known it though but not their music) and its really true that it could be the foundation of most modern techno and pop music.
Das Model and Radioaktevität is probaly my current favorites but i only have like 20 songs from them atm. Autobahn sounds pretty nice too! just got the Trans europe express music video too hehe.
enough writing
lets hope germany wins
(sorry, dagcrack, i have to be on their side hehe)
edit: im in fact wondering how they did the first music.. i know the most recent is done on computers but how did they make those sounds that time? its fantastic how they got those weird tunes to fit together!

Can't resist... hey this is OT anywaythefool wrote:edit: im in fact wondering how they did the first music.. i know the most recent is done on computers but how did they make those sounds that time? its fantastic how they got those weird tunes to fit together!
Basically, the way to make electronic music back then was not that much
different from today, expect for the huge amount of outboard equipment...
All the really good synth (until today) are from that decade (Autobahn was
sometime around '73-'75 IIRC):
Arp Odyssey and modular synths, Minimoog, Farfisa E-Pianos, loads of guitar
effects (Mutron!) and amps, vocoders are a relict of WW2 so they were
also already available back then... etc.
All of this has been triggered by hardware step sequencers (about the
same functionality you know from trackers, but really limited). I guess
they even did manual overdubs.
All in all there wasn't a real quantum step in the last 30 years.
I mean everything has gone digital and much more affordable, but the
basics are still the same.
It's also really common to still meet all of this equipment in today's
studios all around the world. Digital synth never succeeded to really
emulate the sound. Also a lot of people love the tight rhythm of hardware
sequencers as software still tends to "jiggle" (nothing the ordinary listener
would here, but it's capable of measurement
Well, these were the days...
Good programmers don't comment their code. It was hard to write, should be hard to read.
not until today it really is stilltraumatic wrote: All the really good synth (until today) are from that decade (Autobahn was

ah i didnt think vocoders were available that time!Arp Odyssey and modular synths, Minimoog, Farfisa E-Pianos, loads of guitar

heh i wasnt born back then (or i was pretty young some of them).. Now i guess they use computers for it (kernkraft. vitamin, aerodynamik etc was made in these years.. afaik they were/are on a big tour this year.)Well, these were the days...
or are they still using that old hardware??
some funny thing i have noticed is that times imagination of robots etc. I remember queens Radio Gaga music video wich inludes different things like this. Also how the robot usually looks on that time.
i often think about beginning to make music that sounds like kraftwerk's. Not copying it! but just the same simplicity and originalism of it. it should be possible using flstudio.
Do you recommend any other [rather cheap] software than flstudio to accomplish this? I know fl studio can be used for something like this [and more] as it has some "Generators" that tries to emulate oscialltors and that stuff. Also guitar eg i actually think it does it pretty well! also vocoder and that stuff is included.
heh about it being "those days" i often think about how i would like to been born that time. it must have been exiting all that stuff its much more new than anything that happens these days. I like queen's music and now i found kraftwerk i like it too! the moment i just heard one of the songs i like it. their webpage really attracts me hehe even though its weird i actually spend more than 20 minutes playing! it doesnt say much and most of it is some kind of playing with the mouse. pretty damn nice.
However queen isnt anymore (well at least freddy isnt here anymore.. the queen + paul rodger tour is pretty nice and i have gotten many videos and personal recordnings of it. its okay, however never the same as with freddie..).. kraftwerk still plays though! nah its just the basics of what the 70+80 represents (in technology world) that im facinated of. Not the hippies eg hehe just the basic imagination of robots etc.. and the music.
Vocoders originally have a military background. They have been inventedthefool wrote:ah i didnt think vocoders were available that time!
to encode speech signals for radio-transmission... no good idea, much better
in a musical context
I don't know about Kraftwerk but there are still people that swear byor are they still using that old hardware??
hardware sequencers because they simply don't crash that often.
The same for synth (plus the original sound) but most of the electronic
bands use mainly playbacks today AFAIK. Well, not the ordinary 2-track
playback but 8-24 tracks, to have more control over certain sounds,
because volume level of certain sounds/instruments can also depend on
the location.
I don't really know FruityLoops but often recommend NI Reason for startersDo you recommend any other [rather cheap] software than flstudio to accomplish this?
(in electronic music), because it's an all in one tool (synth, sampler,
sequencer, effects) and fairly easy to use. Fruityloops has a VST plugin
interface AFAIK, so it's most likely not a bad choice (extendable).
Well, I don't think making music is a matter of soft- or hardware.
Use whatever tools you feel comfortable with - your euqipment will
change anyway the better you get...

heh if it sounds that way as they do in music its not good coded hehe
anyway how would they reverse it quite good enough if they really did code it enough so it couldnt be heard..
Yeah it has a vst plugin interface. However i have heard good things about Reason, its just not cheap.ought it. btw reason is propellerhead.I don't really know FruityLoops but often recommend NI Reason for starters

the prize for 3.0 is 450€ .. too expensive for me.
