In fact this issue has already begun, sort of. Look at how the Microsoft website runs with Firefox! It's impossible to navigate certain parts of it and this all harks back to the days when they did exactly the same with their site and the Netscape browser. So, what do MS think people will do? Go back to using IE? Riiiiiight! I never, ever use IE for any reason. If a site doesn't work with Firefox, I don't visit. Simple

to me it seems that microsoft is not being punished for including the software, they are being punished because they are so successfull. After all, media player in one form or another has been inluded in windows since win 3.1.
Seriously, can anyone name another OS that doesn't come with a media player of some sort? (please don't mention one of the million linux distros, cause yes i know they exist without it, but no-one uses those distros so it doesn't matter)
What i think this is all about, is money and power. the EU decided that since everyone else was cashing in with lawsuits vs MS, then they should get a piece of the action too. Same thing happened across the US. one state successfully sued MS, within a few years practically every other state in the union had a lawsuit going vs MS. guess what, they ALL settled for a big chunk of money.
I'm not saying MS doesn't have questionable business practices, i'm just saying that has little/nothing to do with the motivation for sueing them for 500 million dollars.
If i was head of MS, i'd flip europe the finger and pull all of my products/service/support out of europe, until they begged for it back... which wouldn't take long.

Well if we can't mention Linux, then I'll say that apart from Unix, no. Windows seems to install WMP whether you like it or not. Don't know about MACos.
But the truth is that there are quite a few people that use Linux, and none of the distros I know of, install any program you don't want to. You can always choose what you want to install.
what i was trying to say, is don't mention something like router-linux. I know that linux only installs what you want, which is great, but pretty much any linux that someone would have on their pc, at least would contain a media player, whether or not you chose to install it.
i remember back to older versions of windows 95-ME, you actually got to choose what was installed when you set it up... That is definantly something i'd like to see them go back to.
But here's the question... why didn't the EU force microsoft to just give the option, instead the forced them to create an entire new build of windows (packaging, discs, etc)?
