what do you think about the new methode, to lightscribe your CDs (branding logos and fonts without printing, just burn in by a laser - looks like original buyed CDs!

sure, it cant be available in color. even it will burned in a special layer of the CD and so it will only reflect the light (like some original CDs wihtout color printing). I agree, it looks really cool!Tranquil wrote:It looks nice but is not available in color. Only two colors are supported now.

No panic Mike. Your laser for writing data to disc, will not be used for lightscribing images on the cover! Those special "lightscribe" drives, will own an special own laser (for lasering the cover only).
more and more companies starting to include this new technology into new products (still available since some weeks)

I'd like to see the software only versionI've seen somewhere on the net a small program that does the same with a standard recorder for free. No especial hardware needed.
The idea is quite simple it just converts Text / Images into a ISO bit array then burn's it...

disc and burning an image on its surface. Where would the actual data go?

I compile using 5.31 (x86) on Win 7 Ultimate (64-bit).

the data would go on the cd he didnt say it would work with normal cd's.
in fact it could be possible, the lightscribe cd does have some sort of special layer. So in theory it could be possible.

but again, in theory, it could be possible on the lightwrite enabled cd's. im not sure why people say it would shorten the lifetime of the laser, as its just writing the data as usual, its just moved around. Of course, using the laser will shorten the lifetime, but otherwise i doubt it would mean that much.
