What linux distribution do you prefer ?
I've only tested Mandrake, which is really easy to install, since some users (like Fred ), are using Debian or others, could you tell me why you've choosen another one than mandrake (since they are harder to install )
I test my PB-apps on RedHat and SuSe, all on Intel-based hardware. I don't have a preference for either of them. All distros have something going for them. I decided to take the two major market movers as testing platforms. So far this proved to be sufficient. If a client comes along who's using another distro, I'll be glad to add yet another virtual machine for testing purposes...
I would start to learn and use Linux but i havn't installed a distro yet that has recognised and setup my adsl modem. [Alcatel SpeedTouch] I have absolutely no idea how to install a driver or get it working on such a foreign system. I am pretty lost without it working as i can't pull any tutorials or guides on linux from the net. So i'm caught i a chicken and the egg loop! damn!
Mandrake first then Fedora Core for several years until I found Ubuntu (Debian based), damn easy install and a really active and good forum (just like this one )
First I had SUSE, then Mandrake, then Debian, then Gentoo
I like gentoo very much though i deinstalled it again as some main data programs run only with windows (I have to move the data, but moving 25MB takes some time...)
I've only recently moved to Linux but of the distros I have tried I rated Redhat first followed by mandrake, partly because they supported my hardware better.
