PB4

Post by Kanati2 »

Been a while since I've wandered in here and remembered hearing rumors of purebasic 4 a while back and wondered what the status was on that, what was being considered for additions, etc. Just curious...

As far as I can recall no official feature list has ever been published and the conversation has come in spurts over the last few years with the "PB guys" really having very little to say. The conversation to this point has been mostly users slapping their wish on top of a non-existant list. PB 4 has been hyped up (by users, not the developers) to the point that it is in danger of being the next BlitzMax. BlitzMax being something that everyone wanted so bad for so long that they actually forgot what it was they were looking forward to and were disappointed when it arrived.

PB 4 will come when Fred & Co make it happen, and with what they decide to put in it.

Don't go setting up expectations as it is still far too early!

Currently PureBasic is in a state I call sync, from what I can see of the results coming out from Fred, that being Windows/Linux & MacOS having the same feature set over all languages, I don't know what is happening with the AmigaOS version.

Please don't hate me 8) but why don't "edit" then PB name for the 4.0 version?

The "basic" part in PureBasic is so weak...
If you build something in C++, you state this in the "features" to be proud of it:

3D engine made in C++ (wow! :) )

Even if the features could be the same of a PB project, people will know that the former is better. I know that YOU programmers are aware of the truth, but consider the ones that will buy you product, or the software company owner that have to buy PB licences... Usually people that have to choose is not a programmer at all.

"Pure" is too short and too generic...
Following the trend, (Flash MX, Windows XP) perhaps "Pure MX" seems much cooler... Or use any randomly chosen couple of letters:
MX, XP, ZX, FX, AZ, CX, TNG, MAX,
mhhh.. seems that the X is much requested

Even BlitzBasic now has discarded the basic part...

Someone agrees?

well it gets too nifty and fancy! I like pureBasic. Its a simple name, and remembers me of: I was down training today, and while i waited for my trainer to help me i looked at the solarium, where the signs said :
Ultra Super lights with Ultra Super Power cooling
that was the excact words, and it sounded very very fancy. I wouldnt like purebasic to get a fancy name..

Right, BladeX :D

lol, I bet there's a detergent having the name "ultra pure" ;)
Good programmers don't comment their code. It was hard to write, should be hard to read.

I like the name 'purebasic' in convays the message that is it is clean and simple, just how programming is supposed to be.

Inner: Heh, I am really hoping all PB versions (or at least linux/win) will be in sync before PB4 comes out :) Ah well, or hoping that PB4 will finally have all platforms of PB in sync.
