Good book/online workshop for flyer design

Post by merendo »

Hi everybody,

I am doing some promotional work in the internet and I am now looking for a good book or an internet workshop or something like that, which can teach me how to design a flyer well. It doesn't matter much to me whether it's german or english (but I personally would prefer english). It should be easy and obvious to understand and especially cover party-flyer design.

I would be glad if you could help me.

Many thanx in advance,

merendo

Just start off every flyer with "Utterly Jaw Dropping", and the rest writes itself!

(sorry, I had to)

Good programmers don't comment their code. It was hard to write, should be hard to read.

Merendo, are you interested in a more technical kind of overview
(eg. what resolution to use, different color-formats etc) or something
like "does and don'ts in flyer design - a practical approach" ?

I would appreciate both. The way the book is written doesn't matter much to me, it should be able to teach me a lot. A lot of useful knowledge.

But as said, I would appreciate both.

Maybe this link will help (but you may already know):
http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/
That site should keep you busy for some time.

I don't think there's a resource teaching you how to properly design
a flyer though. I mean, it's mostly all about creativity, there are no
real rules or something.

I remember 10-15 years ago every book about design in print told you
not to use rounded edges, today every $*%#&-techno-party-flyer
uses them. Seems like MTV makes the rules nowadays ;)

(Don't get me wrong, I love the MTV trailers.)

Using more than one font-family also was in the top ten of "don'ts"
not that long ago. Today.... Well, you got the point :)

Anyway, if you have some specific questions, I'd be glad trying to
help you out.

Well, my boss said that is perfectly allowed to use two or even three (but not more!) fonts in a flyer. And he also uses ONLY rounded edges.

Anyway, many thanks for that link, traumatic. I'm gonna have a look @ it. Thanx again!
