Looking for people to help me with my game. (graphically)
I am working on a purebasic game. It is an overhead tank shooter (2-D) and is completly non-profit. I am not a very good sprite designer and I was wondering if there was anyone out there who would like to design some sprites for me. Right now I need some enemy animations that include soldiers running, shooting stance, and the death. If anyone wants to help out please post below. If not, I am all on my own.
I am not very far into making the game. If you want to see what I have so far you can download the executable here:
http://www.1matthew.com/downloads/TankExamle.zip (<20KB zipped)
W, A, S, and D keys to move, mouse to aim and shoot, 1 and 2 to select weapon.

nice smooth work there.
Question: when you talk about running men / soldiers, i guess you mean they are viewed from the same angle as the tank and can rotate in 360 degree's?
if so, thats a tricky one then. Best approach is todo it in a 3D app and convert the gfx to 2D.
Can't help then, since i do mostly 2D gfx.
If the solidiers only need to run in 4 direction's then it would be manageble to do it the traditional way.

It's a top down view isn't it ? no need for 3d or isometric graphics ... but if he's using 3d sprite he can rotate any soldier like he does with the turret, therfore the graphic only needs to be facing one direction , and DriakTravo can rotate the soldier like the turret. BTW very cool start for a game ...

You are wellcome to use this to rotate your GFX
http://personal.telefonica.terra.es/web ... ROTATO.EXE
NOTE: this version only rotates gfx with a black background, on lighter backgrounds this can be undesirable because of the anti-aliasing, it's also limited to 150x150 pixels (max).
I have a better newer version(whithout these limits), if you want it just send me a message and I'll send you it. Can be freely used by any PB user, would be nice if you mention you used it, but/A><s is not necessary.

the enemy width/size has to be 32x32 because I need to make them 3D sprites. for the running animation mabe about 5 or 6 frames. the shooting stance can be just 1 (mabe the enemy kneeling er something) and the death can be mabe 3 (mabe the enemy falling over with blood
) I am also trying to make some enemies. I want a variety, mabe even some enemiys with vehicles and bosses. But it is very hard for me because I never made any overhead graphics before. Right now I am trying to make a 2 part enemy that will probobly be a boss. It is kida like a mech warrior where the bottom legs are running around and the top half is a turret that shoot bullets
Again, any help is greatly appriciated.

Okay, first attempts were lousy.
Will try again.
BTW, perhaps there is something you can grab/mod from one of the sites listed here:

GAH! I am also having another problem. As you can see from the example, if you go right and then try to go up, the tank turns completly the oppisite direction. Does anyone know how to fix this? All I have right now is that
Code: Select all
If TankAngle > TankAngleSet
TankAngle - 10
elseif TankAngle < TankAngleSet
TankAngle + 10
endifIf you are looking for ideas on images there is an excellent free (and massive and detailed) turn-based strategy game called SPWAW available from http://www.steelpanthersworldatwar.com/
(Aside: I like this game)
This uses top-down graphics (in a format called .shp) and the sprites are about the same size as yours.
It has a huge number of sprites - tanks, planes, ships, different vehicles, and troops. I am pretty sure the images are copyright to matrix games but they might give you some ideas and a general way to go.
The soldiers are tiny and lack an animation sequence but there are a few standing, different postures and lying down.
My own attempts at creating a top-down view of soldiers all ended up as blobs - some with sticking-out bits. Giving up.

Thank you for the link. It does give me some ideas.
/me ponders
BTW, I updated the example, you can download the newest version from the link on the first post. You can change the background using the 1-5 keys and left mouse = bullets and right mouse = missle
I still have the breakdancing tank problem which I cant seem to fix. All well. I guess I will try again in the morning.

Don't know how you are going with this, but this game:

Uses overhead view if you want more egs.
