PRE-Wishlist Discussions

Post by Randy Walker »

To Fred specifically... (other's comments welcome too),

While you're off on vacation, I decided to browse the forums and topics here, trying to get better acquainted before jump into the actual code (also waiting for my new account password... pleasse!).

What I observed was a lot of requests that turned out as only problems where other users were able to offer the proper syntax or coding technique, etc.

For your own sake, I wondered if it would not be easier on you to track legitimate requests if you provided a "Pre-Wishlist Discussion" on the main page just above the existing "Feature Requests and Wishlists" link. This may allow us to minimize the clutter for you when you look for new requests. We could confine our wishlist discussions to a separate forum and then when we reach our concensus, we could move the new request to the main request/wishlist forum.

Just a thought. Meanwhile, enjoy your vacation :) (hurry back :( ) and take your time! :) (Please hurry back :cry: )

Thanks,
Randy

Probably be a great help with bug reports as well. Half of them are already reported and the many of the rest are bugs alright, but user bugs.

Another variation would be to add a Feature Request forum that only Fred/Moderators can see... All valid requests would get moved to the new forum for Fred to easily see...

Same for bugs :)

@Dare2
Pre-Bugs Discussion... Even better! I hadn't gotten that far yet. :) I'm new here and bugs get fixed (right?) so I was trying to get an idea of what current users feel might be "lacking".

Sounds good to me. I was wondering though, this may make it cumbersome for Fred (or moderator) to post back and forth to a single party... for example, to supply sample code, explainations, relevent inquiries, etc. Would they have to revert to the pre-topic forum for these exchanges? If so, then would they end up scattering a single thread amongst the two forums making it less managable?

I don't know a lot about how this forum works or what flexibility it has but, I think if they could invite a single party to respond to a post in their private forum, I would say this could be a great idea. It would cut down a lot of side commentary.

Personaly, I think anything the users can do to help Fred isolate "what their interests are" would be... in their best interest.

Sounds like a good idea to me. If it makes Fred's life easier then theres no reason it shouldnt happen.
