politics

Post by localmotion34 »

i am curious to hear what politics are like in other countries, from the point of view of peers in PB who are citizens of other nations. is the US the common joke out there, a joke of how divided our country is on many topics? do your freinds see the US as the world police? i just read the news and read AOL messageboards and america is horribly divided. what do you guys think of george W bush? what are the political parties like for you? are your campaigns as much mud-slinging as our US presidential campaign is? i just want to hear the opinions of citizens and not read it in a book.

IMHO GW Bush is a person without any vision or opinion....

I'm pretty sure there's a someone else pulling his strings in the backstage.

When i see an interview with him, he looks like a bad actor reading pre-made answers.

The big picture his, someone else runs the show and he was put in power because he his controlable and is used to serve other interests.

Here in Portugal our Republic works on a diferent way, the President does not run the show, he has the power to control only the Republic Assembly and he acts has a representant of our country, he's Big Brother to all others.

It's the Republic Assembly (built with chaimans and Ministers, elected directly) that controls all.

Other than that all is the same...

We have a saying here in Portugal: "the shit is the same only the flyes change..."

Well, according to US propiganda, we are the only free country in the world...*laughs*.... And, we are the 'watchdog' for the world....*ROFLMAO*... What makes me sick is we're not anywhere close to a democracy... We're just a dictatorship with the 'speed' of a pure democracy ;)

Personally, I'm looking for a way out of the country, but try saving anything in this economy!
Anybody have a spare room for a US refugee?

Here's something fun and educational:

Bush should be called in front of the war criminal tribunal in Den Haag for his sending troops to iraq. Who delivered the weapons and who trained those "enemy combatants"? The iraqi people? LOL
Well, that's only my 2ct

Well, I would like to say that you're welcome here in Germany but lately things develop just like in the USA. Employees get blackmailed by the industry. Longer working time and less money or we will go to Poland or Czechia (that is nearly the same as with Mexico, the USA and the NAFTA).

At the moment they are planning to trim our civil rights with DRM and Software Patents and the like. I could vomit more then I've eaten today.

This is a brave topic!

I'll be brave.

Take the most powerful nation the world has ever seen.

Add massive amounts of international sympathy, goodwill, and support (after 9/11).

Watch one administration squander the lot.

(I wonder if, in America, people realise what damage has been done to their country, tangible and intangible)?

It is a bit like having the most prestigeous restaurant prepare an absolute gourmet's delight - and then drop in some dog turds to add variety.

Fire the chef. Fire the kitchen staff.

:D

I hope we fire our own culinary crew this election. (Even though they are usually my own preferred party). Then we should deport them to the states, because they obviously became US citizens somewhere along the way. :D

After 9/11 there were candle-lit vigils in the streets of Iran.
Did any Americans posting here know that?
I am not having a go at anyone, I just want to know if it was reported there.

When I was at school the Iran/Iraq war was going on. As the Ayatollah was using children as young as 12 to be soldiers those who could afford to sent their children out of Iran.

I went to a small Private school in Cambridge England and I would estimate approx 20% of the pupils at that time were Iranian.

Didn't know that. In Canada we mostly get American News (on cable) ... Anyway that's all I watch. The US is so Isolated as a world nation it's not even funny. Americans are very uneducated in World Affairs in general.

Almost 90% of Americans don't even know where Canada is, let alone that it's a country (we are the second largest land mass as a country in the world, hard to miss). Being the world leaders how could you trust a nation that wanted to pass laws to ban the name French Fries because France disagreed with their foreign policy. Then it becomes clear ... It will be the Americans to end the world, not terrorists, not crazy countries like North Korea, and not Brutal Dictators. It will be Americans. If they can't have it for themselves, then they'll blow it up (the world that is). Not Globalization, Americanization.

Oh BTW I'm not some liberal democrat type ... If I was in the states I would consider myself a Rebublican. I believe in war, death penalty, and less government. I just think most Americans are nuts, thats all.
