PureBasic jobs?

Everything else that doesn't fall into one of the other PB categories.

PureBasic jobs?

Post by Joubarbe »

Did any of you ever had a programming job in PureBasic? I don't see the advantage for a company to lean towards this language, but I'd be interested to know.

(and if you have a job to offer, that's even better! :D )

Not me but I heard some the programmers have a job for PB so they are not in the forum and it is more likely private though.

In the industry moves to C or C++ so it is very popular in their purpose.

@Joubarbe
I think that PB is already being used by some people for “professional” tasks. (Not by me, though -- because I am not a sw developer anymore, maybe I never was) //--- wow, I'm funny again today. ---
However, I have not yet seen PB requirements in job advertisements.
good luck with your job search.
Just because it worked doesn't mean it works.
PureBasic 6.04 (x86) and <latest stable version and current alpha/beta> (x64) on Windows 11 Home. Now started with Linux (VM: Ubuntu 22.04).

I worked with PureBasic at a company for several years (I'm almost retired now).

It's very rare for a company to request a PureBasic programmer. In my case, they didn't need a specific language; they just wanted a programmer who could do what they needed and do it quickly.

The thing is...
I had to prove my abilities before they hired me, because the mere mention of the word "Basic" in the compiler's name put them off, as if it were some kind of toy.
Some time later, they amazed of what a "basic" can do :D

Some small companies don't need the latest frameworks or languages; they just need someone to provide the solution they need, regardless of how it's implemented.

Unfortunately, this isn't usually the case in larger companies, especially when several programmers have to work on the same code.

I've done numerous contracts with pb via the community, though most of the time it's pb bolted on top of c or ports of c to pb most have been a few weeks work max.

Networking, hid device drivers, numerical libs, ssl, cryptography, audio, multimedia applications
All of these projects had been beyond pb native capibilties.

Mostly its been people approaching me privately but a few have been unrelated to pb where I've just been asked via contacts to help on a project where they don't care what it's written in.

There are plenty of people using purebasic in their employment and numerous companies using purebasic for products.

I've even done a network related contract where the end users was a government agency which I found interesting.

If anyone wants my help they know where to find me.

Thank you all for your answers. I'm glad some of you managed to make money with PB :D

I do in a certain way with my game (signature), but that's not a huge success! (sold 1000 in a year, which is decent compared to 50% of the games on Steam)

@Caronte3D: I agree with you; I think some companies don't really know what they want. And the HR people are always funny when it comes to tech requirements... I've tried other languages, even got some certifications in web tech, but I'm way faster with PB when it comes to make internal app / scripts. That's what I'd like to do.

@marc_256: I'm what they call a digital nomad, mostly living in Scotland. I'm starting a new game with the same engine, but I'd like to find something more reliable as well. I'm very bad at maths, 2D and 3D, haha :D That's why my game is text-based! Please send me a PM to tell me what you need, I might be able to help.

Hi

I use Purebasic in my company along with other software. My clients only care that the software does the job not what software it is written in. So I have the freedom to choose. For me it has been a great choice.
