Can't update, if can't download. I keep my working windows offline. If I really need an update, I browse Microsoft for it's particular kbd.
I browse internet with a dedicated machine.
That's how I did it. The normal driver updates and Defender updates (for those who use Defender) still run.
And if you want to install a feature update, you can download it from the Windows Update Catalog and install it manually. This way, you can be sure you won't have to deal with unwanted updates and restarts when you don't need them.
