Xmas Tree Designer

Post by _aNdy_ »

Xmas Tree Designer is a simple program that lets you design and decorate your own Xmas tree! It is great for young children, classrooms, or just a festive bit of fun! All in PureBasic!

Xmas Tree Designer...

- is safe (developed by a Primary School teacher and Childcare Setting manager)
- runs on *your* computer (no annoying ads, no sign-ups, no in-app purchases, no tracking, no internet connection required)
- is free (although a donation will support further development of this and other tools!)
- is great for individual children or whole classrooms/settings
- has been tested on large interactive touch screens

A web version has also been created using SpiderBasic.

Very nice _aNdy_, that's absolutely lovingly done. It would also be nice if animated (burning) candles could be added.

And when the tree is finished, you could view it as a full screen image with a background of your choice and Christmas music playing in the background.

I'm just dreaming...

Thank you for the kind words both! The children do love it yes, with children as young as 2 using it.

@dige...
Lovely ideas that I may incorporate in a future version! The reason for the white background is because there has been *much* printing going on at my childcare setting and I need to save some ink somehow! ;-)

There are a few more simple apps like this in development:
An Xmas scene maker (think snow backdrops with backgrounds, stamps such as snowmen, trees, Santa and so on)
A simple tool that displays letters and numbers for children to trace over and practise formation.
Maths 2D shape matching tool.

I know similar software exists already, but they are sometimes bloated or contain a shocking number of adverts. I want my Grandchildren and the children at my setting to be as safe as possible.

The simplest things are sometimes the best. I find the idea and the software very appealing; a great project for young children. 8)
Add a few more options, such as glitter garlands, electric lights, snowmen, and other decorative elements, and it will be even more fun.
Out of curiosity, I tried your program via the web and SpiderBasic; it's really very well done. Keep up the good work! :)

Thanks for the comments both!

It will be receiving an update soon to v1.1. There will be a couple more trees to choose from, some additional decorations and some simple sound effects acting as audio tactile feedback for young children (button clicks, stamper thuds and so on). The SpiderBasic web version will also be receiving the same upgrades and, if I ever figure it out, maybe an Android version with mobile UI.

Also soon to be released, in a similar vein, Xmas Scene Designer!

nice thanks for sharing.
If you're using the vector lib you can easily add animations of sorts or color changes with the animated vector graphics wrapper. viewtopic.php?t=87734
