Multiple Menuitem Columns in Linux

I've just switched to Linux Mint and have a small problem. I used to use ModifyMenu commands to align MenuItem columns from one long column to several smaller columns. Is this possible in Linux Mint? Couldn't find any topic about this by searching. Any examples or suggestions. Really enjoy the freedom of Linux. Quite a change, but at 85 I'm ready to try it.
