"End of PureBasic LTS version" - blog post

Post by Quin »

Today, this blog post appeared on the PureBasic team blog.
It seems that there will be no more LTS versions, and the entire release and versioning cycle will be overall more simple. I'm personally in favor of this 100%, the whole LTS cycle mostly just confused me as a user who joined after most of the breaking changes were already long gone, think 5.40 LTS days.

I never used the LTS concept anyway. I've only ever updated if I saw a bug fix or new feature that I needed, and didn't upgrade if not.

Most of the time it doesn't get that there is an update for an LTS.
So I find the release version with all bug fixes and new functions sufficient.

It seems very good to me too, especially for a very small team.
Like many, I never used the LTS concept anyway.

This is OK for me, too. Whatever lightens the load for the PB dev team is a good thing!

I basically stick to the latest stable PB 6 version, or for some projects the last PB 5 version.

I would like version 6.04 to support fixes and improvements to support WindowsXP. So that the functions CompareArray(), compareList() and CompareMap() are added to it. We could call it version "6.05 for WindowsXP". And for Windows7+, we would have a minimum file size.

No problem for me either. I always find the beta releases flesh out most bugs quickly and find every release to be extremely stable. Fred and team should make their lives as easy as possible, they do an amazing job.

No problem. I've always used two directories (normal and beta)
And even beta versions of PB are more stable than some definitive versions of other products created by big companies. 8)
