Too much Time on my hands. Ticking away with my sanity

Post by Randy Walker »

Sorry if I'm out there annoying anyone.
Back in May of 2019, almost 6 years ago I was diagnosed with "a mass" inside my skull. So they put me under the knife and saw and proceeded to open my skull and remove "a mass" about the size of the average door knob from my skull. I don't think that did anything to improve mental performance. My oncologist is a little stumped that I am still alive, commented she lost most of her patients in the first year. My standard reply when someone asks "how you been?" is a most emphatic "Unbelievable!!", because I am still alive. She loves to hear that reply when I see her.
Understandably I fell off all computer activity after the surgery. Hence the big lapse in my attendeance here in the PB forum. I've only recently decided to jump back in, in an attempt to work what is left of my brain. Performance fades bad enough with age. Removing "a mass" the size of the average door knob certainly hasn't helped any. I would certainly be dead if not for constant attention from my wife. I'm so fortunate to have found her. Unfortunately I was forced into early retirement. now looking for anything to occupy my time. "Roku Ultra" has helped a lot. Don't mean to annoy so I am sorry if I get on anyone's nerves.

Hi Randy. So sorry to hear about your health predicaments; but your response is highly commendable. Life is a gift to be celebrated in any way we can.

I myself am no stranger to the knife, having gone under twice in the past few years. Today, although I am plagued with many of life's problems, good health is still paramount above all.

Praying for your continued "unbelievable" days to come, my friend. :D

Thank you all for your kind replies. Still alive is not the most unbelievable thing. My brain still works. Not as well as before but I'm mostly still functional. I think that's pretty unbelievable, although I've been thinking of changing my standard reply to "marvelous!!". I'm nothing like Clint Eastwood so I hesitate to steal his line. ;)

There are "futuristic ways" for cancer surgery, like using a "mini particle accelerator" to destroy it "in 3D" without opening your skull (Italy)

Anyway, see this (it's old; you can find more…)………

I don't know about futuristic. after the surgery they put me on "Keytruda" immunotherapy infusion to help prevent the "mass" from coming back. (they say "mass" I guess to avoid using the word cancer) Incidentally I was left with a gaping cavity in my brain where they extracted that "mass". Cavity is still there because brain tissue does not regenerate. They told me the mass in my chest metastasized to my brain. Although the lung "mass" was not small it was smaller and they were able to extract it through a small hole in the side of my rib cage. No knives, No saws :)

Yes, I saw that. Real world aspirations, but I would not say futuristic.

Well.. the brain is still working. Get the "well" in the right place :D
No dispair. Just a little lame brain. I can live with that just fine. Just hate to think I might annoy others.

When I see some of the shit I posted just in reaction to other postings that annoyed me, I want to slap myself around the head with a frozen goat.!!

We can't help it, all have our good and bad days. Don't let it throw you. I too am surprised that I am alive after many surgeries and life issues so I can get a little cranky.

Just take my frozen goat and hit me with it and say, "Hey, I am only human!"

I've had to take a break from coding because the stress was getting too much (for various reasons) and am currently playing with my amateur radio hobby and crocheting more beanies for cold people to have. That helps so much.

One of our local amateurs always says, "Get amongst it" and while I have no idea what he means, I get the sentiment:):)

Don't forget the frozen goatz!

I've always been smart enough to know I'm not smart enough to vote so I never have. If my bad vote cancels out a good vote and wrong person takes the seat then what good was it for me to vote? That's just stupid. :D They're all power hungry psychopaths so what does it really matter anyway? I don't have the answers but lots of people out there voting every year so they must just be a lot smarter than me. Oh well. I'd rather be the happy idiot anyway. Life goes on either way I guess.
