Forum: Please try again in 1 second.

Post by Axolotl »

Hi everyone,

A new observation when using the forum's search function.
Unfortunately, I have now been confronted a little too often with the following hint.
Sorry but you cannot use search at this time. Please try again in 1 second.

And the suggested waiting time can range from 1 to 5 seconds.
Maybe I have to live with it, but maybe not.......
So let me ask you briefly:
What's going on?
Am I the only one experiencing this?
Just because it worked doesn't mean it works.
PureBasic 6.04 (x86) and <latest stable version and current alpha/beta> (x64) on Windows 11 Home. Now started with Linux (VM: Ubuntu 22.04).

It's normal for forums to impose a limitation on the frequency a user can submit a search. I assume this would prevent bots and automated scripts from querying excessively.

Thank you for your explanation.
I can't write any queries faster than 2-5 seconds, despite the 10-finger system it won't work. But I would like to be able to.
And it has only recently started to occur.

The forum search function isn't that good anyway. It's way easier to search with Google. Just add this to your search: site:https://www.purebasic.fr/english
The english grammar is freeware, you can use it freely - But it's not Open Source, i.e. you can not change it or publish it in altered way.

I hope you have seen my AdvancedSearch utility.
Supports command line directly from the IDE (Alt + F)

Hi Axolotl,

The 1-second warning message is only triggered for me when I'm not logged into the forum. Logging-in and then repeatedly searching, doesn't trigger the warning for me. I haven't seen it happen before with the PureBasic forum, until just testing it now.

Thanks for notice.
@AZJIO: yes, I saw your tool.
@PBJim: yes, let's see if that limits the behavior

In former times I had this problem when using an ad blocker which doubled the requests (first with HEAD then with GET).
bye,
