Installing 6.10 betas always complains about McAfee running

Post by marcoagpinto »

Heya,

I wanted to report this before, but it is better late than never.

Every time I install a new 6.10 beta, during install I get this:

Thanks!

I've always used Kaspersky, the best antivirus I've ever used on both Windows and macOS.

I take o-fence at windows o-fender o-fending me so often that I now take a rail post instead of a whole fence:):)

Seriously though, malwarebytes (bytes me very little these days) and o-fender seem to get along better and better these days on this machine. Wonder how long that will last???

Glad to see some fun poked at an MS product. Offender has been really intrusive for me recently. I wondered if it's possible to remove it entirely, but I see that it doesn't appear in the usual application lists and doesn't even appear under the "Windows Components". Microsoft is "trying it on" and assuming it can get away with precisely the same anti-trust competition avoidance tactics it employed in the 1990s when it built Explorer into Windows.

Honestly Windows Security (previously Windows Defender) is pretty good these days. The main setting I tweak is to turn off cloud-delivered protection. That seems to trigger a bunch of false-positives, especially for PB/AutoIt programs. Realtime protection doesn't do this, but cloud-delivered does.

I used to turn off cloud-delivered too, but then realized I need to experience what my users are going to experience. No point in me putting my head in the sand and pretending all's well when my users are getting cloud-delivered warnings.
